NEW DELHI: Volkswagen Tayron Life starts at Rs 41,99,000, below MG Majestor's advertised starting price of Rs 43,49,000. But the entry Tayron is a five-seater, while Majestor offers six-seat and seven-seat configurations. Volkswagen's seven-seat Tayron R-Line starts at Rs 47,74,000, so a comparison based only on the lowest headline figures misses the seating distinction.

Price as of 2 November 2026, 00:18 IST. These are the manufacturers' published starting figures. Volkswagen identifies its figures as ex-showroom. They do not establish the final on-road bill, and MG's single range starting figure does not establish a separate price for every seat and drivetrain combination.
There is no single specification winner in the headline. One figure buys entry to a range with additional passenger configurations; the other identifies a particular five-seat version. Establishing the required layout is therefore necessary before the price difference can mean much to a household.
Seat count changes the price question
MG lists Savvy configurations with rear-wheel drive and either a second-row bench or captain seats. Its four-wheel-drive configuration is listed as a seven-seater. Volkswagen separates its two Tayron versions by seating capacity. The lower-priced Life should therefore be understood as its own configuration rather than an R-Line with a smaller equipment bill.
That distinction matters for a family whose extra passengers join only occasionally. Captain seats, a bench and the absence of a third row solve different everyday problems. A list of luxury features cannot establish how easily a grandparent reaches the last row or where bags sit when all passengers are aboard.
Diesel and petrol define different specifications
Majestor's official FAQ specifies a diesel engine and an eight-speed automatic. Tayron's Indian technical table specifies petrol and a seven-speed DSG with 4MOTION for both Life and R-Line. These are substantial mechanical differences, even though both cars appear in a similar premium SUV search.
The quoted torque figures do not, by themselves, establish which feels quicker or more relaxed. They come from different engines and driveline arrangements. This is a comparison of published specifications, with no claim about measured acceleration, fuel consumption, ride quality or refinement from an independent drive.
MG's page describes a ladder-frame chassis and rear-wheel drive for its two-wheel-drive trims. It also advertises differential locks and terrain functions elsewhere in the range. Those panels need to be matched to the chosen configuration; an entry price cannot be used as proof that every off-road feature is included.
Measure the parking space as well as the cabin
MG publishes a length of 5,046 mm and width of 2,016 mm. Volkswagen's Indian specification table lists both Tayrons at 4,792 mm long, with Life 1,853 mm wide and R-Line 1,866 mm wide. The difference is relevant to a fixed garage or apartment parking bay, independent of which badge or engine a household prefers.
For this particular pairing, that is a useful check before comparing screens or seat functions. The route into a basement, the space beside a support pillar and the room needed to open a door are everyday constraints. Taking measurements can answer them more directly than a claim about road presence.
Volkswagen lists 885 litres of luggage capacity for Life and 345 litres for R-Line, with larger capacities when seating is folded. The ordinary figures refer to different seating arrangements. A family comparing the two should keep passengers and luggage in the same imagined journey rather than mix one version's seating with the other's boot figure.
Read the configuration beside the figure
Our existing MG Hector price list October 2026: Rs 12,14,000 to Rs 20,14,800 provides the Volkswagen range reference. For other premium SUV configurations, see the Volkswagen Tayron price list: Rs 41,99,000 to Rs 47,74,000 and MG Astor price list: Rs 9.79 lakh to Rs 15.30 lakh for all seven versions. None makes the Majestor and Tayron mechanically interchangeable.
