NEW DELHI: The Mahindra XEV 9S frunk has a maximum load of 60 kg, according to the owner manual. Mahindra separately advertises 150 litres of front storage volume. Owners need both figures: available space describes what may fit, while the weight limit determines how heavily that compartment may be loaded.

Weigh dense luggage before loading
The manual instructs owners to spread the weight across the frunk and avoid items that can move in transit. A partly empty compartment can still reach its weight ceiling if the contents are dense. Conversely, a bulky lightweight bag may use considerable space without weighing much.
For an Indian family preparing for an airport run, the useful habit is to check the packed bag rather than estimate from its size. A weighing scale answers the weight question; a stationary loading trial answers the fit question. Neither test substitutes for the other.
Keep the compartment limit separate from the vehicle's overall loading limits. Moving an item between the front and rear storage areas changes its location, but it does not remove that item from the vehicle. The family's passengers and luggage still have to be considered together.
Why this electric SUV has front storage
Mahindra's XEV 9S announcement describes a vehicle built on the INGLO electric architecture. The earlier model introduction explains the packaging approach as a skateboard layout with a flat floor and sliding second-row seats. The front storage area is part of that model-specific packaging story.
The main launch feature walk lists a frunk drain hole and light, alongside a cooled console storage area and sliding rear seating. These are different storage and cabin facilities. The presence of a drain hole does not establish that every kind of wet, loose or heavy load is suitable for the compartment.
The launch material also describes split folding seats in the rear and a separate luggage area. That flexibility is useful to understand before deciding where to place an awkward item. Front storage should not become the automatic destination for anything that is inconvenient to put behind the passengers.
Close the hood as carefully as you pack
The manual requires Park before opening the hood and specifies pulling the release lever twice. After closing, check that both sides are latched, the hood sits flush with surrounding panels and the driver display does not show an open hood. Follow the complete illustrated closing procedure in the handbook.
A final visual check belongs with the final packing check. It is particularly useful when someone other than the driver has loaded the front compartment. Agree who closes it and who confirms the vehicle is ready, rather than assuming another family member has already checked.
This is also a reason to learn the procedure while the vehicle is stationary at home. Being familiar with the release and the latch checks makes a departure less hurried. It avoids turning an unfamiliar front-storage compartment into a last-minute puzzle in a crowded pickup area.
Keep the numbers attached to their purpose
The XEV 9S combines passenger accommodation, movable seating and storage at different ends of the vehicle. A single large litre figure cannot describe every possible arrangement. Record the compartment's weight limit alongside its capacity when making a family packing checklist.
If luggage is normally packed by several people, make the front-compartment limit visible to everyone involved. The person putting a bag in the car may not be the person who read the manual. Sharing the actual limit is more useful than asking each person to judge whether the compartment looks full.
