Two versions with different seating layouts

Volkswagen labels both amounts as starting prices on the Tayron page. The table preserves that wording instead of presenting either amount as a city-specific on-road quotation. The company's technical comparison, meanwhile, makes the seating difference explicit: Life and R-Line have different passenger capacities within the same model family.

That distinction is more substantial than a change of trim decoration. A household comparing the versions is looking at a different allocation of cabin space between passengers and luggage. The common Tayron name does not mean that every version comes with a third row, and the Life badge should remain attached to its seating description.

The product page introduces Life as the five-seat addition to the range and continues to show R-Line alongside it. It does not provide an individual delivery date or a stock position for each city. A live listed price therefore establishes the public price reference, rather than the availability of a specific vehicle.

The powertrain is shared

The technical sheet gives both versions a 1,984 cc turbocharged petrol engine, rated at 204 PS and 320 Nm. Each uses a seven-speed DSG with 4MOTION all-wheel drive. Moving from Life to R-Line does not bring a higher published engine output in this comparison.

Both versions also have a listed length of 4,792 mm and a wheelbase of 2,789 mm. The extra seating in R-Line is not accompanied by a longer quoted wheelbase. The differences have to be understood through the interior layout and equipment, rather than an assumption that the higher-priced version is a stretched body.

Volkswagen specifies different wheel and tyre packages. Life uses 235/55 R18 tyres, while R-Line uses 255/45 R19 tyres. The brochure identifies Bologna wheels for Life and Coventry wheels for R-Line. These are tangible specification differences even though the underlying engine and transmission descriptions match.

Boot capacity needs its seating context

Published boot capacity is 885 litres for Life and 345 litres for R-Line. The maximum expanded figures are 2,090 litres and 1,905 litres respectively. Those expanded volumes involve folding seating, so they cannot be described as luggage room available while every passenger position is in use.

For Indian family travel, that makes passenger count an essential part of any luggage comparison. A maximum cargo figure answers a different question from the space behind the last occupied row. Keeping the standard and expanded figures separate makes the specification more useful than quoting only the largest number.

What the equipment comparison shows

The brochure gives Life a 12.9-inch infotainment screen and an eight-speaker system. R-Line receives a 15-inch screen and an eleven-speaker Harman Kardon system. Both have a digital instrument display, while the R-Line equipment includes a head-up display. The upgrade therefore changes the display and audio package as well as the seating.

Life has LED headlights, whereas R-Line is described with IQ.LIGHT HD Matrix headlights. The brochure also separates their ambient-lighting choices and exterior detailing. These are model-specific equipment distinctions; the general Tayron gallery is not a substitute for the individual Life and R-Line columns.

Shared equipment in the brochure includes a panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control and front seats with ventilation and massage functions. The safety matrix lists nine airbags for both versions. It also lists driver-assistance functions including adaptive cruise control and lane assistance across the pair, while the camera arrangements differ.

Warranty and the price basis

Volkswagen's India warranty page describes new-vehicle cover against manufacturing or material defects and states a four-year warranty period. It treats extended warranty as a separate product. The availability of that product should not be read as proof that an extended plan is already included in either published Tayron price.

The warranty page also distinguishes coverage from service products. This matters when reading a total quotation containing a maintenance package or other additions: the price of the vehicle, the terms of warranty cover and the cost of optional services are separate pieces of information, even when presented together.

The amounts above reproduce the official starting prices without subtracting retailer offers or adding an assumed insurance premium. An on-road total needs its own breakdown. The clearest comparison remains Life versus R-Line with the seating layout, standard equipment and price basis named together.
