NEW DELHI: Volkswagen's official India specification table gives the five-seat Tayron Life an 885-litre boot, while the seven-seat Tayron R-Line lists 345 litres. The respective expandable capacities are 2,090 litres and 1,905 litres. These figures describe different seating arrangements inside the Tayron range, so the largest number should not be read as luggage space available with every seat occupied.

Life and R-Line do different cabin jobs

The important distinction is the passenger arrangement. Life dedicates its cabin to a five-seat layout. R-Line adds the ability to carry extra passengers. Looking only at the expandable boot figures would hide that difference and make the comparison less useful for a family planning an actual journey.

A household travelling with a stroller and several bags needs the capacity available with the seats it intends to use. A household carrying occasional extra passengers needs to inspect the additional row and its access. Neither question is answered by quoting the greatest volume in the specification table.

Volkswagen's model-page FAQ separately repeats the R-Line's boot figures and confirms its seating capacity. This gives the smaller published volume a clear place in the range. It should not be confused with a figure for a different Volkswagen SUV simply because the cars share some styling or drivetrain terminology.

The same length does not mean the same luggage layout

Both versions have the same published overall length and wheelbase. The difference in seating is therefore happening within the same basic length, rather than through an extended body on the seven-seater. That is the central fact behind this particular Tayron space comparison.

The table also gives both versions the same engine and transmission description. More seats do not, in this case, identify a different engine family. Cabin packaging and drivetrain specification are separate parts of the range, and each needs to be checked on its own terms.

For the financial side of these versions, our Volkswagen Tayron price list: Rs 41,99,000 to Rs 47,74,000 covers the published figures. This explainer focuses on how the space numbers should be read, rather than repeating the range as another price story.

The published table separates normal and expanded capacities for both versions. Keeping those labels visible is essential whenever the figures are reused.

Make the luggage check match the trip

Litres are useful for comparing published capacities, but they do not describe a suitcase's shape or a stroller's folded dimensions. A practical inspection can begin with the seats in the intended travelling position, followed by the luggage items that are hardest to rearrange. That establishes the relevant layout before any seats are moved for a demonstration.

Next, check whether the tailgate can close comfortably and whether luggage can be secured. The official figures do not promise that a particular family load will fit. They also do not measure how easily a passenger can get into a rear seat when other occupants and their belongings are already in place.

The expandable capacities belong to another use case, such as moving a bulky item when fewer passenger positions are needed. They should remain labelled as expandable capacities whenever they appear in a comparison. Treating them as the everyday boot would overstate what the car offers on a fully occupied trip.

Our Volkswagen Taigun price list: Rs 10,99,900 to Rs 19,46,900 examines a different seating-and-luggage arrangement. The Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line price: Rs 47,11,013 ex-showroom supplies another family-SUV reference, with its own named versions and specifications.

For Tayron, the useful distinction is already visible in the official table: Life provides the larger listed boot in its five-seat layout, while R-Line provides additional passenger positions. The right capacity to put into a journey plan is the one that matches the seats being used, with the maximum expansion figure kept separate.
