NEW DELHI: Volkswagen lists the Golf GTI at Rs 50,90,900 ex-showroom on its Indian website. The published configuration combines a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine with a seven-speed DSG automatic. The figure is a vehicle price, rather than an on-road total, and the website currently says the model is sold out.

Price as of 31 October 2026, 00:02 IST. Volkswagen's product page gives one headline price and one engine and gearbox combination. It does not provide a ladder of differently priced Indian trims on that page, so there is no basis for adding speculative entry or top variants to this table.

A hatchback with a very different brief

The GTI puts its spending into a performance hatchback package. That makes its place in Volkswagen's Indian range quite different from the Taigun price list. A tall driving position, a large family cabin and acceleration are separate priorities. The GTI's compact shape should therefore be read alongside its powertrain and clearance, rather than treated as a smaller substitute for an SUV.

Volkswagen's technical sheet specifies 1,984 cc displacement. Maximum power arrives between 5,250 and 6,500 rpm, while peak torque is available from 1,600 to 4,500 rpm. Those bands explain more than the headline output alone: the torque plateau describes the engine's pulling range, while peak power sits higher in the rev range. Neither figure is a promise about fuel consumption in Indian traffic.

The published 5.9-second acceleration time is a manufacturer claim. It helps define the car's performance intent, but it is not a result from our testing. Traffic, surface conditions and how a driver uses the gearbox are separate from a controlled acceleration run. There is no need to reproduce a track exercise on public roads to understand what the GTI specification represents.

The dimensions deserve equal attention

At 4,289 mm long and 1,789 mm wide, the Golf GTI occupies a different footprint from Volkswagen's larger SUVs. Its height is 1,471 mm and wheelbase is 2,627 mm. These are useful planning measurements for a parking space, although garage ramps and doorway clearance still need to be considered separately. Readers mapping the brand's larger family options can also refer to the Tayron price table.

The 136 mm ground-clearance figure is particularly relevant to an Indian household with a steep basement ramp. A published measurement cannot describe every combination of slope and speed breaker. Check the actual approach to the parking bay, including its crest, rather than assuming that a car will clear it simply because its overall length looks manageable.

Volkswagen lists 225/40 R18 tyres and a mobility kit containing a compressor and sealant. That is a specific roadside arrangement to understand before a long journey. The kit's presence should not be interpreted as a guarantee that every type of tyre damage can be dealt with beside the road. The technical sheet also specifies disc brakes at both ends and independent rear suspension.

Equipment, price and availability are separate checks

The India page lists a 12.9-inch infotainment screen, a 10.25-inch digital cockpit, plaid seat upholstery and three-zone climate control. Its safety equipment includes seven airbags, adaptive cruise control and Front Assist. These features describe the published package; they do not establish a crash-test rating or replace an attentive driver.

The listed amount is lower than the Rs 52.99 lakh introductory figure in Volkswagen's May 2025 launch announcement. The current page attributes its displayed price to the GST reduction. The older announcement remains useful for identifying the car's Indian debut, but its introductory amount should not displace the current product-page figure.

For another body style within the brand, see the Virtus price list. For the GTI itself, a displayed price and an available allocation are different things. The official sold-out notice means the website is not evidence of immediate delivery, and no fresh booking date is claimed here.
