NEW DELHI: Nokia 210 4G includes an AI assistant with a free trial lasting 180 days, after which service fees apply, according to HMD's India product page. A smartphone app is required to purchase the subscription. The handset itself is listed at Rs 2,999, so the hardware price and the assistant's continuing cost are separate questions.

The subscription condition changes the handover conversation
The dedicated assistant button supports voice requests such as opening the camera, switching on the torch, setting reminders and calling a saved contact. HMD also describes answering questions. Those examples explain the intended convenience, but they do not establish permanent free access to every advertised assistant function.
Consider a family member setting up the phone for a parent who wants physical buttons. The useful explanation at handover is not simply where the assistant key sits. It is that the advertised service has a trial, and continuing with a paid subscription involves a smartphone app. The person using the keypad handset and the person managing that app may be different people.
That is a distinctive complication for this model. A product chosen to simplify daily phone use can still introduce a separate subscription decision elsewhere in the household. The published condition does not say which smartphone app is needed or list a tariff, so neither an app name nor an annual cost should be guessed from the trial length.
Video calls have their own compatibility requirement
HMD ties video and voice messaging to Xpress chat. The other person needs that service too, whether on a compatible handset or through the smartphone app available from the Google Play and App Store. This is a service-specific capability, rather than evidence that every video-calling application works on the device.
For an Indian household, the immediate practical issue is the family's existing calling routine. A front camera alone does not tell a grandparent how to join a conversation with relatives. Both ends need to understand the supported service. HMD also warns that video calling uses mobile data and may attract charges under the operator's plan, with availability subject to network and local conditions.
The hardware remains a small feature phone
The specifications list VGA cameras at the front and rear, a 92.7g body, USB Type-C, Bluetooth 5.0 and a 3.5mm headphone jack. MicroSD support extends to 32GB, with the card sold separately. The battery and screen figures in the table are hardware specifications, not a promise about video-call quality or daily endurance.
Putting the assistant on a button does not make the camera specification less relevant. A person mainly interested in seeing a relative's face should evaluate the supported calling workflow and the small display together. Someone interested only in ordinary calls may never need the assistant subscription at all. Those are different uses of the same phone, rather than different priced variants.
Our HMD 101 versus HMD 100 report covers simpler keypad alternatives. The Nokia 150 storage explainer separates memory-card capacity from built-in capabilities, while the Nokia 3210 and 5310 comparison examines a different feature-phone pairing.
Keep the two costs separate
The key figure is the assistant's 180-day trial. It describes a service window, not a discount on the handset and not a confirmed billing schedule after that window. Until an official subscription tariff is available, a total ownership-cost calculation would be incomplete. The current product page supports explaining that limit clearly without inventing a monthly charge.
