NEW DELHI: Maruti Suzuki's Celerio undercuts the WagonR by Rs 29,000 at the base, with the Celerio LXi at Rs 4,69,900 ex-showroom Delhi against Rs 4,98,900 for the WagonR LXi, according to Maruti's official price data. The Celerio stays cheaper at every matching trim, by Rs 11,000 to Rs 36,000, but the cheapest CNG car of the two is a WagonR. Price as of 27 October 2026, 12:30 AM IST.

Both are Arena hatchbacks with the same trim names, LXi, VXi, ZXi and ZXi+, and both offer a manual, an AMT that Maruti calls AGS, and factory CNG. The main mechanical difference is the engine: every Celerio uses the 998 cc petrol, while the WagonR switches to a 1197 cc engine from the ZXi trim up.

WagonR vs Celerio, trim by trim

The Celerio range has 8 versions from Rs 4,69,900 to Rs 6,75,400. The WagonR has 10, from Rs 4,98,900 to Rs 7,23,900, counting a flex-fuel version.

Low trims: the Celerio saves up to Rs 36,000

At LXi and VXi, both cars use the 998 cc engine, so the Rs 29,000 to Rs 36,000 gap pays for the WagonR's body and cabin rather than any extra engine. Sit in both before deciding, since the two are shaped quite differently. The cheapest automatic of the pair is the Celerio VXi AGS at Rs 5,63,400; the WagonR VXi AGS costs Rs 5,99,400. AGS is Maruti's automated manual: a regular manual gearbox with the clutch and shifts handled by the car, cheaper than a conventional automatic but with a slight pause during gear changes.

Upper trims: a bigger engine for less

From ZXi up, the gap narrows to Rs 25,000 and then Rs 11,000, and the WagonR gets the 1197 cc engine. The top WagonR ZXi+ AGS at Rs 6,86,400 is only Rs 11,000 more than the top Celerio ZXi+ AGS at Rs 6,75,400. On upper trims, the WagonR gives more engine for little extra money.

CNG and the flex-fuel WagonR

The WagonR offers CNG on two trims, the LXi CNG at Rs 5,93,900 and the VXi CNG at Rs 6,49,400. The Celerio has one, the VXi CNG at Rs 5,97,900, so the cheapest CNG of the pair is the WagonR, by Rs 4,000. Maruti also lists a WagonR ZXi+ MT FFV, a flex-fuel version, at Rs 7,23,900, the most expensive WagonR. Flex-fuel cars are built to run on petrol with higher ethanol blends than a regular engine accepts; check fuel availability near you before choosing it.

On Maruti's claimed figures, the Celerio is ahead on petrol manual, AMT and CNG. Real-world numbers will be lower for both, especially in city traffic.

Which one to pick

For the lowest price and the best claimed mileage, the Celerio LXi and VXi are hard to beat in Maruti's range. The WagonR makes more sense if you want the cheapest factory CNG of the two, the 1197 cc engine on a ZXi or ZXi+, or the flex-fuel option. Ex-showroom prices leave out registration and insurance, so ask for an on-road quote in writing.
