NEW DELHI: Kia's published Seltos maintenance schedule calls for engine oil and filter replacement every 10,000 km or 12 months in normal use, but every 5,000 km or six months under severe use. The earlier limit applies. Before booking, match the manual to your car's engine and model year.
| Seltos service check | Published requirement |

| Severe-use oil and filter replacement | 5,000 km or six months |
| Initial scheduled inspection | 1,000 km or 1.5 months |
| Meaning of I / R in schedule | Inspect / replace |
| Free-service entitlement in Kia FAQ | First three scheduled services up to two years or 20,000 km; periodic maintenance labour only |
Start with the journey you actually make
Heavy traffic, extended idling, dusty roads and repeated short journeys feature in the manual's severe-use conditions. A low odometer reading therefore does not automatically put a city Seltos on the normal schedule. Discuss the pattern of use with the workshop before accepting the next due date.
This matters particularly for a household whose Seltos does a school run, waits outside an office and returns through congestion. The odometer records distance, while the service calendar also records elapsed time. Write down both before the appointment. That gives the adviser a clearer starting point than simply asking for an annual service.
Identify the engine before approving the job
The online schedule separates Smartstream G1.5 petrol, Smartstream G1.5 T-GDi turbo petrol and 1.5 VGT diesel. They share an oil-service framework, but that does not make every maintenance item interchangeable. Keep the vehicle identification details and the applicable service booklet beside the estimate so the workshop can identify the correct version.
Kia's separate explanation of maintenance items gives useful checks beyond the calendar. A clogged diesel fuel filter can cause hard starting and affect the emission system. Cooling-system inspections cover leaks and damaged components. These are reasons to describe symptoms clearly on the job card, rather than waiting for a generic package to address them.
Transmission-fluid colour alone is also a poor basis for authorising replacement. The manual explains that automatic-transmission fluid darkens with use and that the change does not by itself establish a replacement requirement. It similarly discusses normal colour changes in IVT fluid. Ask which scheduled operation or diagnosed condition supports the proposed work, and insist on the specified fluid.
Separate the appointment from the bill
Kia's FAQ allows appointments through MyKia, the website's service-booking section or the authorised service centre. It also points owners to an indicative service-cost calculator. Use that estimate to prepare questions, then ask for an itemised workshop quotation. A calculator result is not a commitment covering every repair your particular car may need.
The free-service wording needs the same care. Oil, consumables, parts and additional requested work remain chargeable under the FAQ's terms. Before approving the estimate, ask the adviser to separate scheduled labour, required materials, diagnosed repairs and optional treatments. You can then understand why a visit described as free still produces an invoice.
When an optional treatment appears beside a scheduled task, ask what it does and whether it is necessary for the complaint you reported. Record your decision on the estimate. This is especially helpful when another family member collects the car and needs to understand what was authorised.
Keep evidence that describes the work
Kia's warranty page lists three years with unlimited kilometres for privately used Seltos vehicles. It also requires maintenance records and servicing at an authorised Kia workshop in accordance with the manual and service booklet. Unlimited mileage in that warranty description does not remove the need to follow maintenance requirements.
A practical service folder should let you reconstruct what happened without relying on memory. Keep the estimate you approved, the final invoice and any written explanation of a complaint that remains unresolved. Where you report an intermittent symptom, describe when it appears, such as after a cold start or during slow movement, instead of guessing the failed component.
Before leaving, compare the invoice with the authorised estimate and ask the workshop to explain any difference. Check that your complaint appears in the record, including when the technician could not reproduce it. Ask for the next due date and odometer threshold in writing. This makes the next booking easier and helps distinguish repeat diagnosis from routine maintenance.
