NEW DELHI: The BMW M440i xDrive Convertible starts at Rs 1,10,65,000 on BMW India's current model page. It combines a petrol inline-six engine and all-wheel drive with a fabric roof, rather than a folding metal roof. The published figure is a starting price, so it should not be read as the cost of every configuration or the final registered price.

A current starting price, separate from launch
Price as of 5 November 2026, 00:10 IST. BMW's current range page and dedicated M440i page show the same starting figure. This is a single verified model entry, not a comprehensive price ladder assembled from overseas versions. The model name matters: the M440i designation should remain on the quotation, rather than being shortened to an unspecified M convertible.
The company's India launch announcement, dated 4 May 2026, carried an ex-showroom price of Rs 1,09,00,000. That is a historical launch figure. It should not replace the amount now displayed on the product page. The release also explains that the price applicable at invoicing governs the transaction and that taxes and ownership charges outside the stated ex-showroom price remain separate.
The roof is the central distinction
BMW describes a panel-bow fabric soft top, with electric opening and closing taking 18 seconds. Its India specification sheet permits operation while travelling at up to 50 km/h. That is an operating ceiling for the mechanism, rather than a recommendation to use it in moving traffic. A stationary demonstration is the clearest way to understand the sequence and the space it needs.
For Indian use, a roof demonstration is more revealing than another photograph of the car with the hood folded away. Check the view behind with the roof raised, how naturally the controls fall to hand and whether the luggage you actually carry works with the chosen roof position. The published opening time does not answer those practical questions.
What sits beneath the convertible body
The India technical sheet identifies a 2,998 cc petrol inline-six delivering 275 kW, quoted as 374 hp, and 500 Nm. BMW claims acceleration to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. These figures describe the manufacturer specification and its test result. They are not independently measured performance for Indian traffic, nor do they establish how the car will ride on a particular road.
The sheet also lists all-wheel drive, an eight-speed automatic transmission and adaptive suspension. Those components distinguish the M440i from an exercise in convertible styling alone. Their presence still leaves useful questions for a demonstration: how the suspension settings feel, how easily the gearbox responds in ordinary driving and whether the steering effort suits the person who will drive it most.
A performance badge should not obscure the seating and access exercise. With any convertible of this format, passengers should try entry and exit with the front seat set for the regular driver. A quick look with the seat pushed far forward can create a misleading impression. This is a practical inspection point, rather than a claim that the M440i's rear accommodation has been road-tested here.
Cabin technology and the order specification
BMW's India sheet lists a digital instrument display measuring 12.3 inches and a central control display measuring 14.9 inches, alongside Operating System 8.5. These are separate display functions within the curved arrangement. During a demonstration, entering a destination and changing an everyday setting tells the driver more about usability than the combined visual sweep of the screens.
The same sheet identifies Harman Kardon audio with 12 speakers and 408 watts, a head-up display, smartphone integration and parking-camera functions. The equipment list should accompany the price quotation. Compatibility of a particular phone, connected services and the operation of assistance functions deserve their own check rather than being assumed from the presence of a screen or camera.
For readers comparing different kinds of BMW performance car, our Car price guide provides separate context. The BMW M5 vs M4 price: M4 starts lower at Rs 1,62,90,000 covers an SUV alternative, while the BMW X6 M60i price: Rs 1,77,90,000 ex-showroom concerns a different approach to a distinctive luxury car. None of those prices substitutes for an M440i configuration.
The fabric roof also changes how the cabin is assessed: repeat the visibility and control checks with it raised. An open-roof showroom presentation answers only part of the everyday-use question.
