NEW DELHI: JBL rates the Authentics 300 for up to 8 hours of music playback from its built-in battery. The owner's manual qualifies that figure by volume and audio content, so it is an upper-limit claim for planning a listening session, rather than a guaranteed running time for every playlist and setting.
| Item | Official specification |

| Music playback | Up to 8 hours, depending on volume and audio content |
| Charge time on India product page | 3.5 hours |
| Weight | 4.9kg |
| Wireless connections | Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.3 |
| Sound layout | Stereo 2.0 |
| Battery-mode inactivity timer | Automatic power-off after 1 hour by default |
Think of it as a movable home speaker
The Authentics 300 combines a carrying handle and rechargeable battery with a substantial home-speaker cabinet. Its 4.9kg weight matters when deciding how it will be used. Moving it from a study to a dining table is a different exercise from putting a small speaker into a bag for a daily commute.
JBL's design puts the handle, Quadrex grille and leather-like enclosure around a stereo system with two tweeters, a woofer and a passive radiator. The battery makes that particular home-audio arrangement easier to relocate. It does not turn the speaker into a source of music independently of the device or network supplying the programme.
In an Indian household, this is especially relevant during a change of room or a short interruption to mains power. The speaker can have charge remaining while the router or music source has lost power. Treating the speaker battery and the internet connection as separate parts of the setup helps explain an otherwise confusing interruption.
Use the playback figure with its qualification
The manual's volume and content qualification belongs alongside the headline runtime. A quiet spoken programme and a loud music session are not interchangeable conditions. JBL does not provide a separate guaranteed duration for each possible listening pattern in the documents checked.
A useful first step is to observe the speaker during the kind of session you actually run. Keep track of the selected volume, source and battery indication. That creates a household reference for the same speaker without presenting an untested estimate as an official replacement for the published claim.
For a gathering, leave access to mains power if the listening period is important. The practical issue is continuity: an advertised maximum offers less certainty than a powered connection when the required session length and listening level have not been tested together.
Charging uses the supplied power connection
JBL's manual instructs owners to connect the supplied power cord to charge the battery, with charging beginning automatically. The India product specification lists a 3.5-hour charging time. That is a separate measure from playback duration and should not be treated as a quick-charge promise.
The battery indicator distinguishes charging, battery status and completion. Use the manual's indicator guide when checking the speaker before moving it. A power connection alone is not a substitute for checking what the indicator is reporting.
There is also an important USB qualification in the manual: USB audio playback applies to the US version, while other versions use that port for service. Indian owners should avoid planning a USB-drive music library around a feature described for a different regional version.
Power management and Wi-Fi are separate
In battery mode, the manual specifies automatic shutdown after an hour of inactivity; the timer can be changed in the JBL One app. An idle speaker turning itself off can therefore be normal power management. It is different from the battery becoming empty during active playback.
The specification sheet lists Wi-Fi streaming through services including AirPlay and Spotify Connect, alongside Bluetooth pairing. JBL One also provides EQ and settings controls. For uninterrupted use after relocating the speaker, check the selected source and the connection available in the new position.
For other speaker designs, see our Charge 6 and Flip 7 comparison, Clip 5 and Go 4 report and Boombox 4 coverage. Their specifications belong to those models and do not extend the Authentics 300's battery claim.
