NEW DELHI: Canon's PowerShot V10 carries an India MRP of Rs 39,995 in both Black and Silver, according to the company's separate colour pages. The compact vlogging camera combines a fixed wide-angle lens, built-in stand and microphones, so the price covers a self-contained camera rather than a mirrorless body awaiting a lens.

A camera built around the person filming

The PowerShot V10 weighs approximately 211g with its battery and memory card. Its upright body is quite different from a conventional mirrorless camera with a projecting interchangeable lens. Canon builds the stand into the body, and the screen flips upwards so a person facing the lens can see the composition.

That combination has a specific use in a small Indian home studio: a cooking demonstration or spoken introduction can begin from a tabletop without a separate camera grip being essential to the basic setup. The stand still needs a suitable surface. It cannot put the camera at eye level on its own if the available table is too low.

Canon's own regional overview emphasises the retractable stand, wide view and built-in microphone. Those details explain the V10's purpose more clearly than treating it as a miniature version of an EOS body. Its design centres on recording yourself with less equipment to assemble.

The lens favours a wide view

Canon specifies a 19mm equivalent angle of view for movies, with an f/2.8 lens. The still-photo equivalent is 18mm. Keeping that distinction in mind avoids assuming the framing is identical when moving between video and photographs.

For a presenter holding the camera at arm's length, the wide view can include the surroundings as part of the story. It also means background choices matter. A busy room remains part of the composition unless the camera position, subject placement or framing changes.

The specification lists digital zoom options but no optical zoom. A person filming a distant performance therefore faces a different task from someone speaking directly to the camera. The V10's fixed-lens approach cannot be assessed as though a longer interchangeable lens could be fitted later.

Recording and focus have clear limits

The camera offers 4K UHD recording up to 30p and uses a 1.0-inch type CMOS sensor. Canon lists 13.1 effective megapixels for movie recording and 15.2 for still photographs. The different figures describe different uses of the camera, rather than separate memory or sensor variants.

Movie Servo AF and face tracking support the self-recording workflow. Canon's specification also says manual focus and eye-detection AF are not supported. Those limits deserve attention when planning a product close-up or a scene where the intended subject is different from the face nearest the camera.

Movie Digital IS provides electronic stabilisation. That feature should be read alongside the planned shot: a stationary talking segment, a handheld introduction and a walking clip place different demands on framing. This article reports the listed functions, rather than a test of their effectiveness.

Leave room for sound, storage and transfer

The V10 has built-in omnidirectional microphones and an external microphone input. Storage uses a single microSD-family card slot with UHS-I support. Its specification also lists USB-C and micro HDMI, while Canon describes plug-and-play webcam use through a compatible USB connection.
