NEW DELHI: Toyota's India-specification Land Cruiser 300 GR Sport pairs front and rear electronic differential locks with a published approach angle of 31 degrees. The ZX has a rear torque-sensing limited-slip differential and a 23-degree approach angle. Both use a 3.3-litre diesel engine and a 10-speed automatic, making the distinction about off-road equipment rather than a different engine.

Read the hardware before the badge
The GR Sport's front and rear locks are listed on Toyota's current India showroom page and in its downloadable brochure. The brochure gives the ZX a different differential description. An owner comparing the grades should therefore use the equipment table, rather than treating the exterior badges as the whole explanation for the difference.
That distinction is particularly relevant when an Indian household wants a large luxury SUV for both ordinary travel and occasional difficult access roads. The useful question is the terrain the vehicle will encounter. A weekend itinerary involving a rough destination and a daily urban commute place different demands on the same vehicle.
For a demonstration, a prospective owner can ask to see how the supplied vehicle's controls and displays correspond to the equipment list. A brochure identifies the hardware; the owner's manual provides the operating instructions. This article does not prescribe when to engage a lock or claim that it is suitable for every surface.
The body and wheel specifications also differ
The dimensions diagram gives the GR Sport a larger approach angle while retaining the ZX's stated ground clearance. Toyota flags the diagram's dimensions as subject to confirmation. These are published specifications to check against the delivered vehicle, rather than an assurance that either grade will clear a particular obstacle.
The wheel and tyre entries are different too. The ZX uses the larger wheel diameter, while the GR Sport's listed tyre has a different size and profile. Neither entry establishes an automatic advantage on every road. The practical inspection should include the tyres actually supplied, their condition and the operating guidance for the intended journey.
For someone planning remote travel, those questions belong in the preparation stage. It is easier to understand the fitted equipment while the vehicle is parked and the handbook is available than while approaching an unfamiliar section of road. A feature list is useful only if the person driving knows which parts of it apply to their car.
Shared power does not make the grades identical
Toyota lists the same engine output and automatic transmission for both grades. The showroom page also describes the GR Sport's suspension tuning and increased articulation. That gives the comparison a clear focus: the off-road package changes even though the headline engine figures remain shared.
The distinction also helps keep expectations realistic. More equipment is not a measurement of how comfortably a particular person will travel, nor a substitute for inspecting a route. The relevant assessment is whether the grade's controls, tyres and cabin meet the intended use, with the manufacturer specifications kept alongside those observations.
Keep the luxury-SUV description in perspective
The Land Cruiser's cabin equipment and substantial exterior do not turn this India-specification model into an MPV. Toyota lists five seats for both grades. A family that regularly travels with a larger group should establish its seating requirement before comparing trim details, luggage arrangements or the appearance of the GR Sport package.
That is a model-specific point that can get lost in broad SUV comparisons. The Land Cruiser's grade choice concerns a shared powertrain and different off-road hardware within a five-seat vehicle. It is not the same decision as choosing a people carrier with alternative seating layouts.
For those separate requirements, see the Toyota Vellfire price list and Innova Hycross variant guide. The Fortuner Leader Edition report covers another Toyota SUV. Those are separate models and do not establish the Land Cruiser's current price.
