NEW DELHI: Hyundai lists a 3-year, unlimited-kilometre vehicle warranty for the Creta Electric, while its product page separately advertises battery cover of 8 years or 1,60,000 km. Owners preparing a service claim should identify which cover applies before treating a battery concern and a cabin equipment fault as the same issue.

Start with the component and the paperwork

The practical first step is to write down what the car is doing. A warning message, an interrupted charging session and a lower range estimate describe different symptoms. Avoid choosing a replacement part yourself before the workshop has diagnosed the concern. Ask the service adviser to record the symptom in the job card in your own words.

Keep the delivery invoice, service booklet and maintenance invoices together. Hyundai's policy asks owners to retain service records and follow its prescribed maintenance through authorised facilities. A dated folder is useful because it lets the workshop establish the car's history without relying on memory or a conversation from an earlier visit.

Why the battery size belongs in your complaint

The Creta Electric comes with either a 42 kWh or a 51.4 kWh liquid-cooled battery. Hyundai's specification table lists certified ranges of 420 km and 510 km respectively, under controlled conditions for a new battery. These are reference specifications, not a diagnosis of an individual car's condition.

For this model, simply reporting that the car travels less than the headline range leaves out essential context. Record the battery version, charge level at departure, route and use of air conditioning. Those observations give a technician something concrete to investigate. They do not establish that a warranty repair is due, but they make the complaint more precise.

Charging complaints need similar care. Note whether the difficulty appeared at home or at a public charger, whether the dashboard showed an error, and whether it recurred elsewhere. Our existing EV battery rental explained: BaaS prices for Punch.ev, Syros EV, Creta, BE 6 addresses the separate question of how battery payments are structured. A financing arrangement should not replace the warranty documents in an owner's service file.

What a workshop decision needs to establish

Hyundai's basic warranty covers acknowledged manufacturing or material defects through repair or replacement, including parts and labour. Routine maintenance and normal wear are excluded. The policy also excludes damage linked to accidents, flooding, misuse or improper repair. Ask for the diagnosis and the proposed coverage decision in writing, especially when a paid repair is recommended.

If the workshop declines coverage, a useful next question is which component failed and which policy clause applies. Request an estimate that separates diagnosis, parts and labour before authorising paid work. Keep that estimate with the original complaint so a later discussion starts with the same facts. This is a practical record-keeping approach, rather than a promise that any particular claim will succeed.

Before handing over the car, make a copy of the job card and agree how the workshop will share its findings. A clear written description helps prevent the original concern from being reduced to a vague request for general servicing.

Keep ownership costs in separate columns

The Creta name also appears on Hyundai's combustion-engine SUV. Our Hyundai Creta price: Rs 10,90,700 to Rs 20,11,300 ex-showroom, all variants covers that separate range. For an electric-car service discussion, use the full model name and battery version on your paperwork, rather than relying on the shared badge.

Owners comparing long-term costs can keep scheduled servicing, insurance, financing and warranty repairs as separate entries. Our Creta Electric charging explained: 39 minutes from 10% to 80% covers the borrowing side. For the Creta Electric itself, the immediate task is simpler: establish the applicable warranty, preserve the records and obtain a component-specific diagnosis before approving expenditure.
