NEW DELHI: Nissan Magnite EZ-Shift is a 5-speed automated manual transmission paired with the naturally aspirated 1.0-litre petrol engine. The turbo automatic is a different car to drive: it uses Nissan's X-TRONIC CVT. Buyers booking an automatic demonstration should specify which system they want to try, because the shared Magnite badge does not settle that question.

What EZ-Shift means at the controls

Nissan introduced EZ-Shift as its clutch-pedal-free transmission in October 2023. The company's technical explanation describes automatic and manual driving modes, with the gearbox choosing shifts in automatic operation. The current linked brochure continues to distinguish the AMT from the turbo CVT in its technical specification table.

For someone moving from a manual car, that description gives the demonstration a useful focus. Ask the representative to explain the selector and the change between its operating modes before setting off. The relevant lesson is how this particular gearbox is operated, rather than an assumption that previous experience in another automatic transfers directly.

Nissan's original EZ-Shift explanation also describes an Intelligent Creep function. In suitable low-speed conditions, releasing the brake allows movement without pressing the accelerator. Have that behaviour demonstrated in a controlled setting before evaluating the car in traffic. The point is to understand the response, not to turn a product description into a substitute for operating instructions.

Make the demonstration answer specific questions

For a city commute, ask to experience pulling away, gentle acceleration and slowing to a stop on an appropriate route. Notice whether you are comfortable with the response to small pedal inputs. A short drive spent only at a steady speed leaves much of an urban automatic's daily work unexplored.

If another family member will drive regularly, include that person in the familiarisation. Their seating position, confidence with the selector and ability to judge low-speed movement deserve attention too. A demonstration should resolve practical uncertainties for the people who will use the car, rather than merely confirm that it has no clutch pedal.

The turbo CVT should be assessed separately if it is also under consideration. Its engine and gearbox are different, as the table shows. Do not attribute a difference in acceleration entirely to transmission design when the power and torque figures change as well. The demonstration compares complete powertrains.

Do not borrow the turbo manual's torque figure

Nissan's brochure lists different torque outputs for the turbo manual and turbo CVT. The automatic's figure is 152 Nm. Someone reading a general Magnite turbo description should therefore check the transmission column before carrying a specification into a comparison. Here, even the same engine-family label is not enough.

Nor does selecting a higher equipment grade automatically change an AMT into a CVT. Write the transmission name alongside the grade on the quotation and ask the representative to confirm the proposed combination. That written identity should match the demonstration car whenever the drive is being used to judge the intended powertrain.

Keep old launch material in its proper place

The 2023 release explains how EZ-Shift works, but its introductory prices and older grade names are historical. They should not be used to establish today's transaction price or range. This guide uses that release for the operating explanation and the brochure currently linked by Nissan for the technical distinction.

That separation is useful when a saved search result sends a buyer to an old announcement. Identify what the document can still answer, then use the current model material for the car being discussed. At handover, ask for a fresh explanation of the selector, parking procedure and relevant manual instructions in the actual vehicle.
