NEW DELHI: Apple's iMac M6 starts at Rs 1,74,900 in India for the 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU version. The 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU tier starts at Rs 1,99,900. Apple opened pre-orders on 28 October and says deliveries and store availability begin on 6 November 2026.

What changes with this iMac

The M6 update brings Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 to Apple's all-in-one desktop. Apple also highlights Neural Accelerators in the graphics cores. The machine retains the defining iMac proposition: a computer and its main screen together, with matching input accessories, rather than a separate desktop box waiting for a monitor.

That distinction matters more for a family study or a small office reception than a headline chip benchmark. A shared computer needs a sensible place to live, a screen everyone can read and a predictable arrangement for calls. The iMac package tackles those needs together. Its appeal is the desk it creates, as much as the processor inside it.

Apple's specifications list a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display and a 12MP Center Stage camera. The marketed screen size is rounded; Apple gives the actual diagonal as 23.5 inches. There are seven finishes, so colour choice is a visible part of this generation without defining a separate processor tier.

Two starting prices, different configuration ceilings

The entry chip starts with 16GB unified memory and supports a 24GB configuration. The higher chip tier can be configured with up to 32GB. Apple lists storage options reaching 1TB for the lower tier and 2TB for the higher tier. Those ceilings describe available configurations, not what the starting price automatically includes.

For someone preparing artwork, maintaining a catalogue and keeping office documents open, memory and storage deserve separate attention. A larger SSD is useful for keeping working files locally, while more memory serves a different purpose when applications compete for space. Neither choice can be reduced to whether the machine is blue or silver.

The Rs 25,000 gap between the published standard starting figures is therefore a comparison between entry points. It is not a quotation for upgrading an otherwise identical computer. A fair order comparison needs matching memory, storage, glass and accessory selections before judging the final difference.

Who it is for

The lower tier fits the role of a shared household desktop, a document workstation or a fixed screen for meetings and study. The higher tier is more relevant when the same desk must accommodate heavier creative work and a larger memory configuration. These are workload interpretations, not performance results from independent testing.

There is also a practical limitation to the all-in-one idea. A household that already has a suitable monitor should assess whether another integrated screen solves a real problem. Someone who moves between home and college needs to account for the fact that this is a fixed desk computer. The tidy package does not make it a portable workstation.

For a shared desk, record the intended applications and local file needs before choosing between the chip tiers. That makes the configuration discussion concrete and keeps the colour decision separate from the resources the household will actually use.

Put the launch in context

Our wider Mac price guide provides the lineup context. The MacBook Air and Mac mini comparison explains the portable-versus-desktop question, while our Apple Store India policy explainer covers purchase terms.

For this launch, the useful distinction is clear: Apple has confirmed the two chip-tier starting prices and the arrival date. A fully customised quotation still needs the selected configuration. Treating the highest available specification as part of the entry package would overstate what the announced price buys.
