NEW DELHI: If you buy an iPhone or any other product from Apple's India online store, you cannot return it or exchange it because you changed your mind. Apple's help page says it plainly: "Products purchased at Apple Store in India cannot be refunded or exchanged." There is one safety net that many buyers miss. If Apple cuts the price of an Apple-branded product within 14 calendar days of delivery, you can ask for the difference back.

With the iPhone Duo going on sale on 23 October and festive buying under way, here is what Apple's own sales terms, read on 19 October 2026 at 12:40 AM IST, allow and do not allow.

No change-of-mind returns

The returns section of Apple's India sales terms repeats the help page line: products bought at Apple Store in India cannot be refunded or exchanged. That is stricter than what many shoppers expect from large online retailers, where a short return window is common for some categories.

So treat every order on Apple's India store as final once Apple accepts it. Check the model, storage, colour and delivery address before you pay. If you are unsure between two models, decide before checkout, not after the box arrives.

What to do if the product is faulty

A faulty product is handled differently. Apple's help page says that if you believe your new Apple product is defective, you should contact Apple Store Customer Service to discuss your options. The store line is 000800 040 1966, open Monday to Sunday from 9 AM to 9 PM.

Every new Apple-branded product also carries Apple's one-year limited manufacturer warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Apple's terms say this warranty is given separately from, and in addition to, your consumer protection rights under Indian law. In other words, the warranty does not replace your legal rights as a consumer. If a complaint about a faulty product is not resolved, the government's National Consumer Helpline, reachable on 1915 or at consumerhelpline.gov.in, is the official place to register it.

The 14-day price-drop refund, step by step

This is the part worth knowing during a season of price changes. Apple's terms say that if it reduces its price on any Apple-branded product within 14 calendar days from the date you receive it, you can contact the Apple Store on 000800 040 1966 to request a refund or credit of the difference between what you paid and the current selling price.

There are two conditions. You must call within 14 calendar days of the price change. And the rule excludes limited-time price reductions, such as those during special sales events. A permanent price cut counts. A short festive sale price does not.

To use it, keep your order number and invoice ready. Apple says the official invoice arrives by email within two to three working days of delivery. Note the date the product reached you, check Apple's store page for the same model now and then, and if the price falls inside the window, call the store line and ask for the difference. Prices do move. Apple's India store now lists the iPhone 17 at Rs 99,900 (price as of 19 October 2026, 12:40 AM IST), as we reported in our story on its price rising above launch, so changes in either direction happen.

Other rules that affect your order

Your contract with Apple starts later than you might think. After you place an order, Apple sends an order confirmation. The contract is formed only when Apple sends, and you receive, the Shipment Notification Email, which Apple says usually goes out within 24 hours for items in stock.

If Apple's store shows a wrong price by mistake, its terms say it will tell you and let you either go ahead at the correct price or cancel the order at no cost. Price changes do not affect an order Apple has already accepted.

Responsibility for loss or damage passes to you once you, or someone you name, take physical possession of the product. Open the box and check the device soon after delivery, so that any fault can be reported quickly.

Card offers come with their own fine print. Apple's current cashback terms say that changing or cancelling an order can lead to the instant cashback being recalculated, and any refund may be adjusted for it.

What this means for festive buyers

Apple's store is not the place for a buy-and-try purchase. If you want the option to return a product, ask the retailer about its policy before you buy, because rules differ from seller to seller and by product type. We have covered how those rules work for TVs in our explainer on LG TV warranty and retailer rules, and for laptops in our report on MSI's Diwali warranty claim deadline.

Apple's full policy is on its India returns and refunds page, and the warranty terms are on its warranty page. Save the Shipment Notification Email and the invoice as soon as they arrive. They are what Apple will ask for if you need to claim a price difference or report a fault.
