NEW DELHI: Apple's India online store now lists the iPhone 17 at Rs 99,900 for 256GB, which is Rs 17,000 above the Rs 82,900 Apple announced when the phone went on sale in September 2025. The iPhone Air has gone up even more, to Rs 1,49,900 from Rs 1,19,900. With Big Billion Days opening on 9 October, the gap between Apple's own price and retailer teasers matters more than usual.
Launch price against the store today
Apple's iPhone 17 announcement said the phone "starts at INR 82900" with 256GB storage. The iPhone Air announcement put its start at INR 1,19,900. The Apple India store showed these figures on 3 October 2026:
The iPhone 17 is Rs 99,900 for 256GB and Rs 1,24,900 for 512GB. The iPhone Air starts at Rs 1,49,900, a rise of Rs 30,000 or 25 per cent. The iPhone 16 is Rs 89,900 and the iPhone 17e is Rs 79,900. The newer iPhone 18 Pro starts at Rs 1,64,900. We could not find an Apple notice explaining the changes, and the store does not say when the prices moved.
Why the Flipkart tag looks different
Flipkart has been teasing an effective Rs 79,999 for the iPhone 17 in Big Billion Days, as we reported in our earlier story. Set beside Apple's Rs 99,900, that is a gap of about Rs 20,000. An "effective" price folds in bank offers and usually an exchange, so what a buyer pays depends on the card and the old phone they bring.
Apple's store carries its own offers. It lists up to six months of No Cost EMI plus Rs 7,000 instant cashback with eligible cards, with a minimum transaction value. On a Rs 99,900 iPhone 17, Rs 7,000 off brings the card price to Rs 92,900, still above the launch sticker of Rs 82,900.
What the iPhone 17 offers
The phone itself has not changed since launch, so the extra money buys nothing new. Apple describes a 6.3-inch Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion, the A19 chip and a 48MP Fusion main camera with optical-quality 2x telephoto. A 48MP ultra-wide camera and the Center Stage front camera, up to 18MP, complete the set. The front is covered by Ceramic Shield 2, and the base model starts at 256GB.
How to approach the sale
First, compare like for like. Check the storage size, colour and seller on each listing, and whether the effective price needs an exchange that you may not qualify for.
Second, check the seller. A very low price from a marketplace seller you do not recognise should prompt questions about warranty and invoice.
Third, compare the other models. At Rs 89,900, the iPhone 16 is Rs 10,000 cheaper than the iPhone 17 on Apple's store. The iPhone 17e at Rs 79,900 is cheaper still, though it is a different phone.
Finally, wait for confirmed prices. Amazon's Great Indian Festival begins on 8 October and Flipkart's Big Billion Days on 9 October, as set out in our sale guide. Until the listings go live, treat every teaser as a ceiling for the best case, not a promise.
