NEW DELHI: The BMW iX1 Long Wheelbase supports home charging at up to 11 kW through the BMW Wallbox and DC charging at up to 130 kW. For an Indian household preparing for delivery, the useful first step is to settle the parking-space installation and electricity requirements, then plan public charging around the route. Those are separate jobs, even though both appear under BMW Charging.

Start with the parking bay
Before agreeing to an installation date, ask the nominated installer to assess the actual bay. Photograph where the vehicle normally sits, identify the proposed charger position and check whether the cable can reach without changing how the family parks. The brochure specifies a five-metre cable, making its route across a wall or around a pillar a practical delivery question.
BMW's home-charging terms say the standard installation kit, installation and commissioning come through its nominated service partner on purchase of the Wallbox. Electricity-load enhancement is the customer's responsibility. Additional materials required by the site are also charged to the customer. Ask for those items to be separated in the installation estimate.
That wording matters in an apartment purchase. A car booking, an electrical installation and permission to use a shared parking area involve different decisions. Resolve the building's access arrangements and the installer's requirements before treating the delivery appointment as the end of the process. Keep the installation scope with the vehicle paperwork so later questions have a written reference.
Read the charging figures correctly
The 11 kW and 130 kW figures describe different charging arrangements. A home Wallbox figure should not be read as a public fast-charger figure. Equally, BMW's claim of adding up to 120 km in ten minutes is a stated DC top-up claim, not a promise that every roadside stop will deliver that result.
For this particular BMW, a sensible handover exercise is to have the charging equipment demonstrated alongside the vehicle. Ask the representative to identify the relevant charging information on the car and app, explain the supplied equipment and record whom to approach if the installation remains unfinished. This is a suggested checklist, not an extra manufacturer condition.
The India brochure identifies the eDrive20L as a front-wheel-drive electric vehicle with a 2,800 mm wheelbase. That long-wheelbase family-car brief makes dependable charging at its regular parking place especially relevant: school runs, office journeys and the next passenger pickup all need to fit the same routine. Charging preparation belongs beside the rear-seat demonstration in the handover conversation.
Plan the journey before choosing the stop
BMW describes cloud-based route planning through the My BMW App, with charging stops informed by traffic and battery charge. It also lists a charging concierge covering trip planning, charger activation and payment assistance. Ask for a demonstration using a route you actually drive, rather than judging the service from a map of the whole country.
A useful rehearsal is to look at the outward journey and the return separately. Identify the proposed charging location, then check the operator's current access and payment instructions before setting out. The purpose is to know what you will do at the stop, including whom to call if activation fails, without having to learn the process while passengers wait.
Readers mapping the wider electric-luxury field can also use our Car price guide and Porsche Macan Electric price list: Rs 1,21,62,000 to Rs 1,77,74,000. Those are separate model references, not substitutes for the iX1's charging documentation.
Keep the model identity on the paperwork
Check that the quotation, brochure and charging discussion all refer to the Long Wheelbase eDrive20L. Our Airtel free roaming: 90-day wait and exit charge explained covers a different buying question. Similar names across the showroom should not replace a check of the actual vehicle and equipment being delivered.
