NEW DELHI: Toyota offers seven-seat and eight-seat Innova Hycross configurations across G-SLF, GX, GX(O), VX and VX(O), while ZX and ZX(O) are seven-seaters only. Powered second-row ottoman seats are listed for ZX and ZX(O). A seven-seat badge on a lower grade therefore does not promise the same second-row equipment.

Capacity and comfort are different questions

The Hycross range does not follow a simple rule that spending more adds passenger places. At the upper end, Toyota pairs the more elaborate second-row seating with the lower capacity of the two available layouts. That is a meaningful distinction for a household whose occasional full passenger load includes grandparents or other relatives.

Start by writing down the usual occupants and the largest group the car needs to carry. Count people before looking at a photograph of the cabin. Then inspect the exact layout with those seating needs in mind. A broad statement that a vehicle is a family MPV cannot answer whether a particular configuration fits a particular family.

What changes in the second row

Toyota's specification describes captain seats with walk-in slide and a side table for the seven-seat arrangement. The eight-seat second row uses a long-slide bench with a 60:40 split. These are alternative layouts, rather than a removable equipment package that automatically turns every version into the other.

The third row is listed with a 50:50 split and tilt-down function. When inspecting the cabin, look at the space with the seats positioned for the people who will actually use them. A demonstration with the second row moved to its most generous position cannot simultaneously show the room remaining for everyone behind it.

Our reading of the layout is that access deserves a separate trial from seated comfort. Ask each intended occupant to enter, sit and leave while the vehicle is stationary. Check whether the seat can be returned to the required position without disrupting the arrangement needed by another passenger.

Ottomans belong to specified grades

Toyota highlights powered ottoman seats and ventilated front seats among the Hycross comfort features, but the grade matrix is essential. ZX and ZX(O) carry the powered ottoman second row. The model's overview also lists a power back door and an eight-way powered driver seat among ZX equipment.

The useful distinction is between a headline comfort feature and the configuration attached to it. Readers comparing a seven-seat GX with a seven-seat ZX should not treat the shared seat count as evidence of identical furniture or adjustment functions. Request a demonstration of the actual grade being discussed.

The brochure describes the model with separate petrol and hybrid arrangements. Toyota's overview identifies Direct Shift CVT for petrol versions and e-Drive for the hybrid. Passenger layout and powertrain are therefore separate checks: establish both, rather than using one detail to infer the other.

Check the cabin as a complete arrangement

The published wheelbase is 285 cm and overall length is 475.5 cm. Those figures describe the vehicle, but cannot establish whether every passenger will find a particular seat comfortable. The relationship between seat adjustment, access and luggage placement is best understood with the intended passenger arrangement in place.

Carry the items that normally travel with the household when inspecting storage space, if practical. An empty demonstration cabin does not explain where bags will go once all passenger places are occupied. Avoid treating a folded-seat photograph as proof of luggage room with the full group aboard.

Our Innova Hycross price guide addresses a separate part of the range. For other Toyota passenger layouts, see the Toyota Rumion guide and Vellfire guide. Keep each model's grade terminology attached to its own specification.
