NEW DELHI: The iPad mini A20 Pro starts at Rs 82,900 in India, while the 11-inch iPad Air M4 starts at Rs 89,900, both with 128GB storage and Wi-Fi. That Rs 7,000 difference separates two quite different tablets: the mini puts an OLED screen into a compact body, while the Air provides a larger workspace and an M4 chip.

Price as of 6 November 2026, 00:27 IST. These are Apple's listed device prices before conditional payment benefits. The comparison uses standard glass on the mini and the smaller Air, keeping storage and connectivity aligned.

The smaller screen has the more ambitious display

Apple's mini specification lists 600 nits of maximum SDR brightness and up to 1,200 nits of peak brightness for HDR content. The 11-inch Air lists 500 nits. Those figures describe different display capabilities, so the mini's HDR peak should not be treated as its brightness for every document or website.

The Air's advantage is room. Its larger panel gives a handwritten page, spreadsheet or document more physical space. The mini's OLED panel instead offers pixel-level lighting control and deeper blacks. A reader comparing the two for illustrated books or films is therefore weighing display character against page size, rather than simply paying more for a better version of the same screen.

That distinction matters for students reading scanned course material. A small tablet is easier to hold, but shrinking a dense page can mean more zooming and panning. The Air's larger working surface and the mini's lighter body solve different practical problems. Neither screen specification alone establishes which will be more comfortable over a long session.

Portability is a measurable difference

The mini's 255g Wi-Fi weight compares with 464g for the 11-inch Air. That is a 209g difference before a cover, keyboard or stylus is added. The figures describe the tablets themselves, so a fully equipped study or work setup will weigh more.

For someone carrying a laptop already, the mini occupies a different role from a tablet expected to be the main writing surface. It can serve as a compact reading and annotation screen alongside another computer. The Air gives more room for the same visual tasks, with a larger object to hold and pack. This is a consequence of their dimensions, rather than a claim based on hands-on testing.

Storage changes more than capacity on the mini

There is an unusually important configuration detail in Apple's technical sheet. The mini's 128GB and 256GB versions have a five-core CPU and a 16-core Neural Engine. Its 512GB version has a six-core CPU and a dual 16-core Neural Engine. The seven-core GPU is listed across those storage choices.

Consequently, a performance description of the highest-capacity mini cannot automatically be applied to the Rs 82,900 entry model. The Air M4 specification lists an eight-core CPU and nine-core GPU. Core counts across these different chips are useful configuration information, but they do not constitute an independent speed comparison.

Apple also reserves the mini's optional nano-texture glass for the 256GB and 512GB configurations. The base comparison here therefore excludes that finish. Anyone matching a display demonstration to a purchase should check the glass and capacity shown, because the entry configuration does not include every feature advertised across the family.

Writing tools overlap, but the physical setup differs

Both tablets support Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil USB-C. Pencil compatibility therefore does not force a move to the Air. Apple's Air page also presents its Magic Keyboard option, while the mini launch materials describe a Smart Folio cover. These are separate accessory choices, rather than items included in the device prices above.

Availability and the comparison's limits

Apple announced the A20 Pro mini on 26 October, with availability beginning on 6 November. Its arrival creates a specific overlap with the existing Air: a smaller OLED tablet now sits close to a larger M-series model on the official India price ladder. The price gap buys a different form factor and chip configuration, rather than a uniform upgrade in every feature.
