NEW DELHI: Honda City owners can check fuel-pump campaign eligibility using the car's 17-character Vehicle Identification Number, or VIN, on Honda's official product-update page. Honda's 25 October 2024 announcement listed 32,872 City cars built from 4 September 2017 to 29 June 2018. This is an ownership check against an existing campaign, not a newly announced recall of today's City.

Match the car, rather than just the registration year
The production window is a useful first filter, but the individual VIN check is the decisive next step. Do not assume that a registration date is identical to a manufacturing date. Equally, a familiar City badge does not mean every generation or every production batch is included. Keep the original announcement and the car's identification together when asking an authorised workshop to verify applicability.
This distinction matters for an older City changing hands within a family. The current keeper may have no record of an earlier campaign invitation or completed workshop visit. A photograph of the registration certificate, service invoices and any previous fuel-pump invoice can help organise the conversation. Treat these as preparation recommendations, not a claim that Honda demands every document as a condition of the free campaign repair.
Use the official product-update form
Honda's current Important Information page has a Product Update/Recall section. Its instructions ask for the vehicle's 17-digit VIN or chassis number, with MAK and JHM shown as examples of prefixes. The actual identifier is alphanumeric. The form asks the user to enter it twice, reducing the chance that a transcription error sends the wrong vehicle details into the check.
The page also displays fields for an email address and mobile number, plus consent to contact by Honda and its authorised dealerships. Read that consent before making your own submission. The result for one City should never be applied to another car, even if the two were registered together. Save the confirmation for the particular VIN alongside its service records so the workshop discussion stays tied to the correct vehicle.
Copy the identifier from the car's own records rather than from a message forwarded by somebody else. Compare the repeated entries carefully before submitting. If the portal result is unclear, ask an authorised Honda dealership to confirm the campaign against that same VIN. A model-year guess is a poor substitute for the car-specific result, particularly when previous repairs may also be relevant.
A previously replaced pump still deserves a records check
The announcement included an additional category for older vehicles that had received a fuel pump as a spare part. Honda also asked customers who bought a Fuel Pump Assembly over the counter from an authorised dealership between June 2017 and October 2023 to get their vehicle checked through a Honda dealership. That is why a replacement invoice may be relevant even when the initial production-date filter seems inconclusive.
Honda described potentially defective impellers that could eventually cause the engine to stop or fail to start. These symptoms are the stated campaign concern, not a diagnosis of every starting problem. If your City has a running fault, describe exactly what happened to the workshop. Do not present a web article as proof that a particular component has failed or attempt a fuel-system repair on that basis.
A useful handover note records the VIN checked, the workshop involved and the outcome. Keep that note with the invoice rather than relying on memory of an appointment.
Confirm the campaign work when booking
Honda's public service-booking page separates customer details from vehicle details and asks for a chosen state, city, dealer, model, registration number and preferred date. Identify the fuel-pump campaign when arranging the visit so the workshop can check the relevant work. The campaign announcement promises free replacement for affected vehicles; it does not set a completion time for an individual appointment today.
Keep campaign work separate from any additional maintenance estimate. Ask the workshop to identify the campaign operation on the job card, explain any separately proposed work and provide a completion record. These are practical record-keeping steps. They help the next keeper establish what was done, without relying on the presence or absence of an old notification message.
