NEW DELHI: Defender owners using Pivi Pro should reserve time away from the vehicle before accepting a software installation. Land Rover India's update instructions say the car cannot be used during installation, which can take 30 to 90 minutes. Check the time displayed in your own notification, finish the journey and prepare the vehicle before choosing when to proceed.
| Update point | Official instruction |
|---|---|
| Installation window | 30 to 90 minutes; follow the vehicle notification |
| Update Now | 10-minute wait before installation starts |
| Connection | Wi-Fi or embedded mobile data |
| Vehicle preparation | Windows closed, vehicle locked and armed, parking brake applied |
| After completion | Check the success notification, version and release notes |
Check the notification before accepting
Open Software update within the main Pivi or Pivi Pro settings. The official Pivi FAQ says an available installation appears there and through a touchscreen notification. Software updates are enabled automatically, and downloading can happen in the background. The invitation to install is the moment to check your diary and the vehicle's instructions.
You do not need an InControl account to perform the software update, according to the FAQ. It also says there are no update data charges to the customer over the supported connections. That keeps the task separate from deciding whether to subscribe to other connected services. Follow the update menu rather than searching for an account-registration requirement.
Make the timing decision with everyone who uses the car. A family member may still need to collect luggage or leave for a pickup after the driver parks. Agree that the Defender is finished for the chosen period, retrieve what is needed and only then move to the installation prompt. This is a practical household checklist, not an additional technical precondition.
Prepare the parked Defender
Use Update Now or Schedule as offered by the vehicle. Land Rover's instructions call for adequate connectivity and the secured vehicle state shown above. If Update Now is selected, starting the car during the initial waiting period cancels that attempt. Plan the parking manoeuvre and any last movement before selecting it.
The India page's Defender release notes give a useful reason to read the instructions for the specific release. OS 4.5.1 includes wireless charging-pad changes and asks owners to clear the pad and surrounding area, particularly metal objects. The same notes list changes for particular hardware, including OCTA suspension. A release description is not a promise that every change applies to every Defender.
The current Defender 110 page describes Pivi Pro with a 13.1-inch touchscreen and accommodation for up to seven people. It also describes Terrain Response 2 and an optional Adaptive Off-Road Cruise Control system. For this vehicle, the screen sits alongside a substantial set of driving functions, so an update deserves a parked appointment rather than a hurried tap before departure.
Wait for completion, then verify
The Pivi FAQ says an installation cannot be stopped after it starts. Wait for the completion notification before planning to drive. On return, review the displayed software version and release information. Keep a note of what the screen reports if you are trying to establish whether a previously reported symptom has changed.
Do not use another owner's version number as the sole test of whether your car has updated correctly. A more useful record is the version your own Defender displayed before the attempt, the notification you accepted and the result it reported afterwards. Those details make any follow-up discussion with the workshop specific and reproducible.
If an installation fails, the official FAQ directs owners back to Software Update in Pivi settings to retry when prompted. If the vehicle has a problem restarting after an update, it advises roadside assistance or the retailer. Record the displayed warning rather than improvising an electrical reset based on an unrelated vehicle's experience.
Keep the ownership questions separate
A software installation and a mechanical warranty assessment answer different questions. Our Car price guide explains that other ownership topic. For the wider luxury-SUV field, see the Audi Q8 warranty: how the 5-year cover handles defects and Range Rover Evoque vs Discovery Sport price: Discovery Sport starts lower at Rs 63,37,000. This Defender checklist concerns the update controls and instructions actually presented to its owner.
