NEW DELHI: Ciaz owners checking old recall paperwork need to distinguish the 63,493-vehicle petrol Smart Hybrid campaign announced in 2019 from the 1,81,754-vehicle petrol campaign announced in 2021. A separate 9,125-vehicle seat-belt campaign covers a later production window in November 2022. Each total spans several Maruti models, so none is a count of affected Ciaz sedans alone.

This is a guide to historical notices still listed on Maruti's customer-information page, checked on 6 November 2026. It does not report a newly announced Ciaz recall or establish whether work remains outstanding on any individual car. That requires the vehicle's identity and its own campaign record.

The campaign totals should not be added to estimate how many Ciaz cars were recalled. They combine different model groups, and the published production periods overlap. The notices do not provide a Ciaz-only breakdown or a deduplicated vehicle count. For an owner, matching a chassis to the relevant campaign is more useful than calculating a combined headline total.

The earlier petrol Smart Hybrid notice

Maruti's exchange-filed announcement dated 6 December 2019 names Ciaz, Ertiga and XL6 petrol Smart Hybrid vehicles. It identifies a possible manufacturing issue with the Motor Generator Unit supplied by an overseas parts supplier. The company said vehicles would be inspected, unaffected examples released, and vehicles needing the faulty part replaced retained for that work.

The announcement said replacement would be free of cost and that dealers might arrange alternate mobility where required. The latter was conditional language in that historical notice. It should not be converted into a promise of a particular courtesy car or a guaranteed arrangement for every owner seeking an appointment now.

The later Motor Generator Unit campaign

The September 2021 announcement covers some petrol variants across Ciaz, Ertiga, Vitara Brezza, S-Cross and XL6. Its manufacturing window is wider than the one in the earlier notice. Maruti again specified inspection or replacement of the Motor Generator Unit without charge, and said affected owners would receive communication from authorised workshops.

The original timetable said replacement would start in the first week of November 2021. That is a historical start date, rather than a current waiting-period estimate. The same release asked customers, pending that work, to avoid waterlogged areas and direct water spray on electrical or electronic parts.

The overlapping dates make a simple year-based conclusion unreliable. An owner should not assume that a record referring to one Motor Generator Unit campaign automatically proves completion of another. The practical question is which campaign entry applies to the specific chassis and what the service record says was done.

A different component in the 2022 window

The 9,125-vehicle entry concerns Ciaz, Brezza, Ertiga, XL6 and Grand Vitara manufactured from 2 to 28 November 2022. Maruti describes a possible defect in a component of the front-row seat-belt shoulder height adjuster assembly that could, in a rare case, lead to belt disassembly. The listed remedy is inspection and replacement of the faulty part free of cost.

This is separate from the Motor Generator Unit issue in both the component involved and the build period. A general note saying that recall work was completed is less informative than a job card naming the campaign and work performed. Keeping that detail with the car's records helps preserve a usable history through later servicing.

Identify the car before interpreting the dates

The 2019 and 2021 announcements direct owners to the chassis number, described as MA3 followed by a 14-character alphanumeric sequence. They identify the vehicle ID plate and invoice or registration documents as places to find it. The manufacturing window in a notice should not be substituted with the date a car was delivered or registered.

Maruti's current customer-information page offers campaign checks. An owner can use the relevant official entry and retain the result with existing service documents. This reporting did not enter a private chassis number, test a customer's eligibility or obtain a workshop completion record, so it cannot certify an individual vehicle's status.
