NEW DELHI: The Mahindra Bolero starts at Rs 8,56,999 ex-showroom for the B4, while the Bolero Neo N4 starts at Rs 9,06,000 on the company's live variant selectors. Both are diesel SUVs, but the Neo has a higher-output engine and a different rear suspension. Price as of 30 October 2026, 00:24 IST.

Similar names, different mechanical packages

The entry-price gap is Rs 49,001, calculated from the displayed figures. What it buys cannot be explained by comparing badges or cabin screens alone. Mahindra lists the Bolero's engine as mHawk75 and the Neo's as mHawk100. Their differing output and torque make this a mechanical comparison before it becomes an equipment comparison.

For a household using the SUV for both a town commute and travel beyond the city, that distinction deserves more attention than the shared name. The Neo's higher published torque is relevant to the question of carrying passengers, but it does not establish a measured acceleration or hill-climbing advantage. That would require a test under the same load and conditions.

Equal length does not mean an identical footprint

The specification sheets put the two SUVs at the same overall length and wheelbase. The Neo is wider, while the Bolero is taller: the listed heights are 1,817 mm and 1,880 mm respectively. Equal length therefore leaves different clearance questions at a parking entrance, inside a narrow garage or beside another parked vehicle.

The width figure also should not be treated as proof of a particular increase in shoulder room. Body width is an exterior measurement. The more useful conclusion is simply that these are different shapes within the same published length, rather than interchangeable bodies carrying different trim names.

Suspension is a more substantial distinction than the grille

The Bolero specification lists a leaf-spring rear arrangement. The Neo instead uses a multi-link coil-spring layout, with Mahindra also identifying its damping technology in the brochure. Those are different suspension packages; the specifications do not provide a common, independently measured ride-comfort score.

That leaves a practical distinction for passengers who regularly travel on patched roads. The question is how the particular vehicle behaves on that route with its normal occupants. A showroom demonstration on a smooth road cannot settle the comparison merely because both vehicles carry the Bolero name. This article reports the hardware differences without claiming to have tested them.

Cabin upgrades sit above the base-price comparison

Mahindra's range-refresh announcement introduced the Bolero B8 and Neo N11. It described leatherette upholstery and revised seat contours, with a 17.8 cm touchscreen in the Bolero range and a 22.8 cm system with a rear camera in the Neo range. Those descriptions should be read alongside their variant assignments, rather than attached automatically to the cheapest versions.

The launch annexure places the Bolero's touchscreen from B6, while the Neo's larger touchscreen and rear camera appear from N10. That creates a separate equipment decision above the B4-versus-N4 entry comparison. A photograph of an upgraded cabin does not establish what the base-price car contains.

Keep seating and luggage questions together

Both are described as seven-seaters, with the Neo brochure specifying a five-plus-two arrangement. The listed capacity is useful for identifying the layout, but it does not measure how comfortable every passenger will be or how much luggage can travel with all seats occupied. Seating capacity and family-trip practicality are related questions, not identical specifications.

The individual Bolero price report and Bolero Neo price report cover the ranges separately. Our Scorpio-N versus Scorpio Classic comparison examines another Mahindra pairing with similar names and different specifications. The figures here are current selector prices, not the older launch prices; Mahindra says prices at delivery prevail.
