BJP Slams Ajay Rai Over Remarks Against PM Modi, Political Tensions Rise in Varanasi

The political atmosphere in Varanasi has intensified after controversial remarks made by Congress leader Ajay Rai against Prime Minister Narendra Modi triggered a sharp response from BJP leaders.
Reacting strongly to the statement, Pindra MLA Avadhesh Singh termed the remarks “extremely cheap and condemnable” and demanded strict action against the use of objectionable language in politics.
Speaking to the media, Avadhesh Singh said that such comments reflect the frustration and arrogance of the opposition. He alleged that a person with a “criminal mindset” making such statements lowers the dignity of political discourse.
Defending Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, the BJP MLA stated that Modi has transformed Kashi into a globally admired city through major development projects, improved infrastructure, and cultural rejuvenation. According to him, people from across India and around the world are now visiting the city in larger numbers because of these changes.
Taking a direct political swipe at Ajay Rai, Singh also referred to his past electoral defeats. He claimed that Ajay Rai was defeated from the Pindra constituency in the 2017 Assembly elections by a margin of nearly 50,000 votes, while in the 2022 elections he was pushed to the third position.
Avadhesh Singh further remarked that if Ajay Rai could not defeat him politically, then claims of “removing Modi from Kashi” amounted to nothing more than political arrogance.
Continuing his attack, the BJP leader said that the people of Uttar Pradesh would once again “break this arrogance” in the 2027 Assembly elections. He also called for the strictest possible action against individuals making objectionable remarks about the Prime Minister, adding that political rivalry should never cross the limits of dignity and respect.
The controversy has now become a major talking point in Varanasi politics, with supporters from both sides engaging in heated debates across social media and local political circles.
