VARANASI: Nineteen express and special trains, including services linked to Varanasi, Ballia and Gorakhpur, will operate on diverted routes during third-line connectivity and yard remodelling work around Bina Junction.

The infrastructure block connects Agasod station on North Central Railway with Bina on West Central Railway. Railway officials said the work would require route changes and, for some trains, reduced stoppage time at Bina. Passengers travelling towards Ahmedabad or Mumbai should check the route for their exact date rather than assuming the normal intermediate stations will be served.

North Eastern Railway chief public relations officer Sumit Kumar said the Dadar–Ballia special would run via Itarsi, Jabalpur, Katni, Satna and Manikpur on October 9, 12 and 14. The Ballia–Dadar special is scheduled to use the same diverted route on October 9 and 11. Dadar–Gorakhpur specials will be diverted on October 10, 11 and 13, with the return Gorakhpur–Dadar services affected on October 10, 12 and 13.

Longer-running changes apply to other services. The Ahmedabad–Darbhanga Express is listed to travel via Guna, Gwalior, Etawah and Govindpuri from September 20 to October 14, while the reverse service is affected from September 19 to October 14. The Ahmedabad–Varanasi City Sabarmati Express will use that route from September 19 to October 13, and the Varanasi City–Ahmedabad service from September 18 to October 13.

The advisory includes additional trains beyond those detailed here, bringing the total to 19. Passengers should use the train number and journey date when checking because services with similar names may have different diversion days. A route change can remove a planned boarding or alighting station even when the origin and destination remain unchanged.

Those holding reservations should check the National Train Enquiry System or the official railway enquiry close to departure. Third-party apps can be useful, but the railway’s current notice and SMS linked to the booking are the stronger reference. Travellers should also confirm whether a train will arrive earlier or later at their station after avoiding Bina.

If a booked station is skipped, passengers should contact authorised railway channels about available options rather than boarding from another station without amending the reservation where required. Families with senior citizens, children or connecting trains need extra buffer because a diverted route may add distance and operational delay.

Yard remodelling is disruptive in the short term but is intended to improve capacity and movement once the new line connection is commissioned. Bina is an important junction, and altering its track layout safely requires trains to be kept away from sections under work.

The dates begin in September and extend into mid-October, giving passengers time to plan. The key is not to treat the advisory as one blanket cancellation: these are mostly diversions on specified days. A two-minute check using the train number can prevent a missed journey, particularly for Varanasi passengers expecting the Sabarmati Express to follow its familiar route.
