NEW DELHI: Vespa's official India specification table separates its 124.45 cc and 149.5 cc scooters by braking equipment: the smaller engine is listed with CBS and the larger with ABS. Both use a 200 mm front disc and a 140 mm rear drum. The important distinction is the braking system, rather than the presence of a disc alone.
| Official specification | Vespa 125 and S 125 | Vespa 150 and S 150 |
|---|---|---|
| Displacement | 124.45 cc | 149.5 cc |
| Front brake system | CBS | ABS |
| Front disc diameter | 200 mm | 200 mm |
| Rear brake | 140 mm drum | 140 mm drum |
| Maximum power | 7.0 kW | 8.4 kW |
| Seat height | 770 mm | 770 mm |
A shared disc size does not mean shared equipment
The table gives readers a way to separate descriptions that can otherwise look interchangeable in a brochure. A disc diameter is a hardware dimension. CBS and ABS are different system labels. Repeating only the front-disc measurement would leave out the distinction that Vespa itself makes between the engine groups.
Nor does the ABS entry turn the rear drum into a disc. Keep each specification in its own row when checking an equipment sheet. A broad claim about advanced brakes should not replace an explicit description of the front system and the rear hardware.
Vespa's shared specification matrix carries this engine-based division through the listed Tech, S Tech and Qala groups as well. That makes engine size a useful starting point when reading the range. The family name alone is less precise than the full model and engine designation.
The Tech badge answers another question
The S Tech product page describes keyless ignition, turn-by-turn navigation, call functions, music control and voice commands. Its matrix identifies a 5-inch TFT for the Tech groups, while the regular Vespa and S groups are described as semi digital. Screen equipment is therefore a separate comparison from the braking-system row.
This is the model-specific trap in a quick Vespa comparison: engine choice, body presentation and dashboard equipment appear in the same family matrix. It is easy to treat the most visible upgrade, the screen, as if it also describes every mechanical difference. Reading across the brake row prevents that shortcut.
For a household sharing a scooter, the distinction also changes what needs explaining at handover. A person accustomed to a familiar-looking Vespa should still identify the exact model before assuming its controls and displayed functions match another example. A shared silhouette is not an equipment certificate.
Several dimensions remain common
The specification sheet lists the same seat height across these groups, alongside a monocoque steel load-bearing structure. The S Tech page also describes a single-side-arm front suspension and a hydraulic rear shock absorber. Those shared descriptions help explain why the range can look closely related despite its engine and equipment divisions.
They do not establish that every rider will find the same seating position comfortable. Foot reach also needs a physical assessment, and a published seat-height number cannot describe an individual's confidence when manoeuvring. This report draws no comfort ranking or stopping-distance conclusion from the table.
For the same reason, the larger engine's higher listed power should not become an unsupported claim about its performance on a particular flyover with a pillion. Manufacturer figures identify a specification difference; a measured road test would be needed to attach a real-world result to it.
Keeping these columns separate also makes an equipment record easier to revisit later, without relying on a remembered showroom description.
Read other scooter specifications on their own terms
Our Scooter and bike price guide and Suzuki Access price list: Rs 82,486 to Rs 1,03,179 ex-showroom Delhi offer separate references for mainstream scooter line-ups. Their equipment labels should not be carried across to Vespa by engine-class shorthand.
The TVS Jupiter price: Rs 74,400 to Rs 90,225, Jupiter 125 from Rs 82,100 is another reminder to retain the full model designation. Here, the confirmed Vespa distinction is specific: matching front-disc dimensions, but CBS in the smaller engine group and ABS in the larger one.
