NEW DELHI: Aprilia's official SR hp-e specification table lists 174.7 cc, 9.76 kW and 14.14 Nm for the SR 175 hp-e, against 124.45 cc, 7.8 kW and 10.4 Nm for the SR 125 hp-e. The two names therefore describe different engines, even though the scooters share the hp-e branding and a connected-dashboard theme.

Read the engine figures together

Power and torque belong alongside the engine speed at which each maximum is listed. Comparing just the largest number removes part of the specification. These are manufacturer-rated engine outputs, rather than measurements of a particular rider's acceleration in city traffic.

The larger engine's torque maximum is listed at a different engine speed from the smaller one's. That identifies a distinction in the published engine data. It does not establish a fixed overtaking time or promise the same response under every load, on every gradient and in every operating condition.

There is a practical reason to keep this comparison focused on the engine rather than the styling. A person seeing SR and hp-e on both scooters could assume the capacity suffix is merely a trim marker. The official table makes clear that it is a mechanical distinction, not simply a choice of graphics.

The automatic transmission is common ground

Aprilia specifies an automatic CVT and a centrifugal clutch in the shared technical table. Neither scooter is described there as using a rider-operated manual gearbox. Engine capacity and transmission type are therefore separate entries to retain when explaining the range to someone new to it.

The specification is useful for describing how the scooters are configured, but it is not enough for a complete riding comparison. No fuel-consumption advantage, acceleration result or ownership-cost saving has been inferred from the engine figures. Those claims would require their own evidence.

The SR 175 has more than an engine label

On the dedicated SR 175 hp-e page, Aprilia describes a telescopic front fork, adjustable rear suspension, a steel frame and ABS braking. It also specifies 14-inch, 10-spoke wheels. These are separate chassis details, rather than performance results implied by the displacement figure.

The same model page describes a 5-inch colour TFT with Bluetooth functions for navigation, calls and music, alongside adjustable backlighting and customisable graphics. The SR 125 hp-e page also describes a 5-inch TFT, so the screen size alone does not identify which engine is underneath.

This gives the comparison a useful dividing line. A dashboard demonstration can show the interface, but cannot stand in for checking the model designation. Conversely, the engine-capacity badge does not tell a reader how a particular phone will connect. Each question needs its own check.

Keep the older SR names in view

Aprilia's SR range page lists the hp-e models alongside SR 125, SR 160, Tribute versions and an SR-GP Replica 175 hp-e. Those names should remain distinct on registration and service paperwork. A specification confirmed for an hp-e version should not automatically be assigned to an older SR carrying a similar number.

For a broader view of different scooter line-ups, our Scooter and bike price guide covers another scooter family. The Xoom 125 vs Xoom 110 price: Xoom 110 starts lower at Rs 75,321 follows a separate range and variant structure.

Readers can also consult the Suzuki Burgman Street price list: Rs 1,04,044 to Rs 1,14,820 ex-showroom Delhi for a separate example of model-specific phone functions. Here the verified comparison is limited to Aprilia's engine and equipment data, with no current ex-showroom price asserted.

For service records, recording the complete hp-e designation alongside the engine capacity avoids leaving an otherwise useful specification sheet attached to an ambiguous SR family label.
