VARANASI: The India Meteorological Department forecast dry weather for Varanasi in its district bulletin issued on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, while its state outlook indicated that minimum temperatures could fall by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius over the next two days. For residents travelling through Babatpur and farmers preparing field work across the district, the useful change is a dry outlook following the recent wet spell, with cooler nights expected.
The district forecast, issued at 12:30 pm IST, marks Varanasi dry with a “very likely” probability for November 3 to 7. A separate state bulletin issued at 3 pm IST extends the dry outlook for eastern Uttar Pradesh through November 9. Neither document announces a rain warning for the district during that period.
Residents should check the latest forecast before an early journey or outdoor work. Farmers should also check field moisture before planting: the fresh agricultural advisory says potato planting should wait until soil has suitable moisture and becomes friable. Dry weather in the forecast does not establish that an individual field has drained.
What the November 3 forecast says
The state bulletin expects no large change in maximum temperatures over seven days. Its minimum temperature outlook is different: a gradual fall of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius is expected over the next two days, followed by little change. These are regional trends, rather than a precise overnight temperature forecast for every neighbourhood in Varanasi.
The same bulletin places night temperatures in Varanasi division appreciably above normal on November 3. Its Hindi summary defines that category as a departure of 3.1 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal and names Varanasi, Chandauli, Ghazipur and Jaunpur within the division. A forecast fall should therefore be read against that starting position.
For November 3, the eastern Uttar Pradesh outlook also mentions shallow fog at isolated places in the morning. The subsequent daily entries say dry weather. That limited wording should guide travel planning: the bulletin does not provide a street level visibility forecast or promise unrestricted visibility at Babatpur airport.

What residents and farmers should do
The department's agricultural bulletin number 88/26, also issued on November 3, contains a separate Varanasi advisory covering the district and neighbouring areas. It is valid from 8:30 am IST on November 3 until 8:30 am IST on November 6. Its crop instructions give farmers more specific decisions than the regional dry weather label alone.
For mature paddy, the Varanasi section advises harvesting when enough dry weather is available. Harvested grain should not remain exposed in the field. The advisory recommends a waterproof tarpaulin or a safe raised storage place, and drying grain to a safe moisture level before storage. It does not prescribe a single numerical moisture threshold in this section.
For potato, it calls for drainage of excess water and planting only once soil conditions are suitable. Farmers should choose healthy, certified seed tubers and use the recommended treatment at the prescribed dose. The advice remains conditional on the actual condition of the plot, even when the broader district forecast is dry.
The vegetable instructions address harvesting and disease checks separately. Mature cauliflower heads should be harvested promptly, with waterlogging prevented and infected plant material removed. Chilli growers are advised to pick ripe fruit regularly and confirm disease before using recommended fungicides. Where treatment is used, the prescribed interval before harvest must be observed.
For pigeon pea, the advisory asks growers to inspect flowers, developing pods and leaves for pests, maintain drainage and avoid unnecessary insecticide spraying during flowering to protect pollinators. Cattle owners are advised to keep sheds clean, dry and ventilated and replace wet or dirty bedding.
Where to check the next update
