Online applications for M.Sc Neuro Surgical Care at Government Kilpauk Medical College, Chennai, opened at 10:00 AM on 18 September 2026 and close at 5:00 PM on 22 September 2026. The Selection Committee of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research issued the 2026-27 prospectus under G.O.(D) No.1074, Health and Family Welfare (PME1) Department, dated 16 September 2026. The prospectus says there is no provision to apply after the deadline.
The course is offered at Government Kilpauk Medical College, affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University. The prospectus lists 10 seats, a two-year duration and a tuition fee of Rs 15,000 per year as fixed by G.O.(D) No.1073, Health and Family Welfare Department, dated 16 September 2026. Special and other fees are paid at admission. The application fee is Rs 1,200, non-refundable and payable only online. The prospectus waives this fee for SC, SCA and ST candidates of Tamil Nadu.
Who can apply
Applicants must be Indian citizens with a B.Sc Nursing or Post Basic B.Sc Nursing degree completed in the regular stream, from the Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University or a university recognised as equivalent by it or the Indian Nursing Council. Minimum aggregate marks across all semesters are 50 percent for OC candidates, 45 percent for BC, BCM, MBC and DNC candidates and 40 percent for SC, SCA and ST candidates. Where a candidate failed a paper, the pass marks from the later attempt are used. Candidates must be at least 21 years old as on 31 December 2026, and there is no upper age limit.
Graduates of other universities must produce an eligibility certificate from the Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University at admission. Candidates from other states who studied in Tamil Nadu from Class 11 onwards and completed their nursing degree in the state are considered only in the open category. Uploads include the course completion certificate, degree or provisional certificate, all semester mark sheets, transfer certificate, Class 12 mark sheet, community and nativity certificates, proof of date of birth and a final-semester attempt certificate.
How merit is worked out
There is no entrance examination for this course. The merit list uses the total of all semester marks, reduced to a base of 100 and calculated to two decimals. The prospectus gives a worked example in which 2,685 marks out of 3,400 becomes 78.97. Candidates with grade-only mark sheets must supply actual marks from the university, or only the minimum of the grade will be counted. Ties are broken by fewer appearances in the final semester, then final-semester marks, then age, then a computerised random number. Counselling, fees and the discontinuation rule
Admission will be through online counselling by rank under Tamil Nadu's reservation and roster rules. Counselling registration costs Rs 500. Selected candidates pay Rs 5,000 online when downloading the allotment order. That sum goes to the college after the Dean of Kilpauk Medical College sends the joining report, and it is not refundable.
Students who join and then leave after the cut-off date must pay a discontinuation fee of Rs 1,50,000 by demand draft to the Secretary, Selection Committee. Until they pay it, they will not be relieved and their original certificates will be kept. Selected candidates must show original certificates in person at joining, together with a medical certificate of Hepatitis-B vaccination. Anyone found to have suppressed facts loses the seat and is barred from applying for the next two years.
