MPT applicants in Tamil Nadu who will finish the B.PT course, including internship, on or before 30 September 2026 but have not yet received the course completion certificate can still apply. Selection Committee Notification No. 1042/SCSII(2)/2026, dated 18 September 2026, from the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Kilpauk, Chennai, sets out the paperwork they need.
Such candidates must upload a self-declaration form together with a certificate from their college principal. The principal's certificate must state the date, before 30 September 2026, on which the candidate will complete the course, and confirm that the candidate will submit the course completion certificate and provisional degree certificate at the time of admission to the M.PT degree course.
What the notice changes and what it does not
The notice lets candidates who are close to finishing apply without the final certificate. It does not waive that certificate. The course completion certificate and the provisional degree certificate must still be produced at admission. It also matches the prospectus rule that candidates must have completed internship before 30 September 2026.
The MPT application window and entrance
The MPT prospectus for 2026-27, issued under G.O.(D) No.1075, Health and Family Welfare (PME-1) Department, dated 16 September 2026, covers seats in Tamil Nadu government medical colleges and government quota seats in self-financing physiotherapy institutions affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University. Online applications opened at 10:00 AM on 18 September and close at 5:00 PM on 22 September 2026. The application fee is Rs 1,200, non-refundable. SC, SCA and ST candidates of Tamil Nadu are exempt from the application fee.
An offline entrance examination is tentatively scheduled for 4 October 2026, subject to change. It has 100 objective questions in English at undergraduate level, with one mark each and no negative marking, scaled to a maximum of 90 marks. There is no rechecking or revaluation, and answer keys will not be provided.
Eligibility and merit
Applicants must be Indian citizens with a BPT degree from the Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University, or an equivalent recognised by it, completed in regular mode, with at least 50 percent of total marks across all semesters. Graduates of other universities must submit an eligibility certificate from the university at admission. Registration with the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions is required once NCAHP starts registering. Anyone who already holds or is pursuing an MPT in any branch cannot apply.
The merit list is out of 100: up to 90 from the entrance and up to 10 for experience, at one mark per completed year since passing BPT as on 31 March 2026. Service candidates get two marks per year of service in hilly areas, within the same 10-mark cap. Half the seats are for service candidates, meaning BPT graduates with two years of regular service in Tamil Nadu Government Medical Service, or approved probationers in local bodies, as on 31 March 2026. The other half are open to all on rank.
Admission will be through online counselling by rank under the state's reservation and roster rules, with a Rs 500 counselling registration fee. Selected candidates must produce original certificates in person at joining and sign a self-declaration accepting forfeiture of the seat and the tuition fee if facts are found to have been suppressed.
