The Selection Committee of the Directorate of Medical Education and Research, Chennai, has opened Master of Medical Laboratory Science (MMLS) admissions for government quota seats in self-financing allied and healthcare institutions affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University. The notification is dated 18 September 2026. Online applications run from 10:00 AM on 18 September to 5:00 PM on 22 September 2026, and the prospectus says there is no provision to apply after that.

The prospectus is issued under G.O.(D) No.1070, Health and Family Welfare (PME1) Department, dated 16 September 2026. The application fee is Rs 1,200, non-refundable and payable online by debit card, credit card, net banking, RTGS or UPI. Tamil Nadu candidates from the SC, SCA and ST communities do not pay it. The prospectus warns that a deduction from a bank account is not by itself proof of payment.

Eligibility

Applicants must be Indian citizens and hold a Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science (B.MLS), earlier known as B.Sc Medical Laboratory Technology, completed in the regular stream, with at least 50 percent of total aggregate marks across all semesters. The degree must be from the Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University or a university it or NCAHP recognises as equivalent. Graduates of other universities must produce an eligibility certificate from the Tamil Nadu Dr M.G.R. Medical University at admission. Candidates must also be registered with the National Commission for Allied Healthcare Professions, subject to NCAHP starting registration. There is no upper age limit.

Natives of other states who studied from Class 11 onwards and completed B.MLS in Tamil Nadu are eligible only for open category government quota seats. Uploads include the course completion certificate, degree or provisional certificate, all semester mark sheets, transfer certificate, Class 12 mark sheet, community and nativity certificates where claimed, proof of date of birth and a final-semester attempt certificate.

The 4 October entrance examination

The MMLS merit list is based on an offline entrance examination, tentatively at Chennai on 4 October 2026 from 10:00 AM to 12 noon, subject to change. Only eligible candidates can download hall tickets. The paper has 100 objective questions in English at undergraduate level, one mark each, with no negative marking: 25 each from basic and general biochemistry; microbiology including immunology, virology, mycology and parasitology; haematology, clinical pathology, coagulation and transfusion medicine; and histopathology and cytology.

Candidates arriving more than 30 minutes after the start will not be admitted. There is no rechecking or revaluation, and answer keys will not be provided. Ties are broken by fewer appearances in the final B.MLS semester, then final-semester marks, then age, then a computerised random number.

Counselling, fees and joining

Admission will be through online counselling by rank under the Tamil Nadu reservation and roster rules. Counselling registration costs Rs 500. Selected candidates pay a further Rs 5,000 online when downloading the allotment order, which is passed to the college after joining and is not refundable. The course runs two years, with tuition of Rs 75,000 per annum as fixed by the fee fixation committee's order of 28 April 2026. Seat numbers will be shown on the website at counselling time.

Selected candidates must produce original certificates in person at joining and show proof of Hepatitis-B vaccination. Admission to the entrance or to counselling does not confer a right to a seat if a candidate is later found ineligible. All updates will appear on www.tnmedicalselection.net.
