The hardware behind the DE badge
The India specification table lists a 90/90-21 front tyre and a 150/70R17 rear tyre, both with tubes. Those details matter on a motorcycle intended to leave paved roads: wheel diameter and tyre construction describe different aspects of the equipment. A wire-spoke wheel alone does not establish that its tyre operates without a tube.
Suzuki's dated India launch material identifies Showa inverted forks and a rear monoshock with hand-adjustable spring preload. It specifies 220 mm of front suspension stroke and rear wheel travel. These are useful distinctions for understanding the DE's terrain-oriented layout, alongside the taller front wheel and ground clearance.
The combination suggests a particular compromise for Indian riding. This is a substantial touring motorcycle with room for suspension movement, rather than a light trail machine. Its height and mass remain relevant during slow turns, parking and uneven stops even though the equipment is designed to help it travel beyond smooth highways.
Riding modes change response
Suzuki's brochure explains that the Drive Mode Selector offers Active, Basic and Comfort settings. All retain maximum engine output; the change is in throttle response and torque delivery characteristics. Selecting the gentler setting therefore does not turn the motorcycle into a separately rated, lower-power variant.
The traction-control system also has a Gravel setting. Suzuki says this permits controlled rear-wheel slip on unpaved surfaces and explicitly says it is unsuitable for paved roads. Rear ABS cancellation is likewise intended for unpaved use. These functions explain the DE's off-road emphasis, but they require attention to the surface being ridden.
A bi-directional quickshifter is described as standard equipment in the brochure. It allows changes up and down the gearbox without operating the clutch lever while moving. Low RPM Assist helps maintain engine idle speed during starts and slow riding. The functions address different parts of the riding experience.
Touring details and colour choices
The model page describes a colour TFT instrument panel with day and night display settings, LED lighting and a USB connection beside the instruments. A height-adjustable screen, knuckle covers and a rear carrier support the touring layout. Suzuki also warns that accessories shown in its photographs may not form part of the standard motorcycle.
The displayed colours are Champion Yellow No.2, Pearl Tech White and Glass Sparkle Black. In its 6 June 2025 update announcement, Suzuki linked these finishes with OBD-2B compliance and revised wheel colours. That announcement documents the update's background; it should not be mistaken for a fresh launch this evening.
The parallel twin uses a 270-degree crankshaft, while Suzuki's brochure describes a compact engine layout and a dedicated balancing arrangement. For this model, that engineering story sits alongside the chassis: the aim is to combine an adventure-oriented riding position with an engine suited to sustained road travel, rather than make displacement the entire selling point.
Where this motorcycle fits
Our Ducati Multistrada V2 price guide provides another premium touring reference. The Suzuki Hayabusa Special Edition report covers a different expression of Suzuki's big-bike range, while the Honda XR300L and XR300 Rally report looks at another approach to mixed-surface riding.
The V-Strom's distinguishing package is its combination of a twin engine, long-travel suspension, touring equipment and surface-specific electronic settings. The exact listed price is a useful starting point for understanding that package. It does not establish an all-inclusive road-ready amount, a colour premium or the cost of fitted luggage.
