NEW DELHI: NIOS Stream 1 Block 2 admission for the 2026-27 session is the route to a first public examination in autumn 2027. The student portal currently labels it “Stream 1 (OCT. 2027)”, while the prospectus describes the first examination session as September-October 2027. The prospectus allows admission without a late fee from 16 September 2026 to 31 January 2027. These are admission dates, rather than a subject-wise examination timetable.
The portal and fee information were checked on 30 October 2026, 21:52 IST. A learner choosing this route should plan for that examination cycle before paying. The fact that NIOS is conducting examinations now does not make a new Block 2 applicant eligible to join the ongoing papers.
| Block 2 admission period | Late fee in the prospectus |
|---|---|
| 16 September 2026 to 31 January 2027 | None |
| 1 to 15 February 2027 | Rs 260 |
| 16 to 28 February 2027 | Rs 520 |
| 1 to 15 March 2027 | Rs 910 |
Who can apply for NIOS Stream 1 Block 2?
Stream 1 is available to learners who satisfy the Secondary or Senior Secondary admission conditions. The minimum ages stated in the prospectus are 14 for Secondary and 15 for Senior Secondary. Applicants must also check the age reference date applicable to their admission block and produce acceptable supporting documents. Selecting a course in the form does not itself establish eligibility.
For Senior Secondary, the qualifying Secondary examination must be from a recognised board. The prospectus also requires an essential two-year gap from the year of passing Secondary for obtaining the Senior Secondary certificate. A learner moving into Class 12 should check this condition separately from the minimum age requirement, because the two rules answer different questions.
The official student portal lists Stream 2 as closed at the time of checking. Stream 2 serves a different admission situation described in the prospectus, including eligible learners who could not clear or could not appear in another recognised board's public examination. It should not be selected simply because its number follows Stream 1. The currently available Block 2 form identifies itself as Stream 1, Block 2, 2026.
What is the NIOS admission fee for five subjects?
For Secondary, the 2026-27 prospectus lists five-subject admission fees of Rs 2,340 for general-category male learners, Rs 1,890 for general-category female or third-gender learners, and Rs 1,560 for the exempted category. For Senior Secondary, the corresponding amounts are Rs 2,600, Rs 2,150 and Rs 1,690. The exempted category covers SC, ST, ex-servicemen and persons with disabilities, subject to documentary requirements.
An additional subject costs Rs 940 in these categories. The prospectus also lists Rs 70 for each online transaction. Crucially, admission fees do not include examination fees. Applicants should therefore avoid treating the five-subject admission amount as the entire cost of completing the course. The official fee page provides the separate fee headings.
How to open the official Block 2 admission form
Start at the student portal, open Academic and choose “Stream 1 (OCT. 2027)”. The linked admission form begins with Choose State/UT, followed by Basic Details, Subjects, Document Upload and Review. Its opening screen asks for identity information, whether the applicant is an existing NIOS learner, and the course being applied for.
Prepare identity and age evidence, the qualifying educational records and any category documents before proceeding. The form warns that missing supporting documents, incorrect information, failure to meet age or qualification conditions, or an unrecognised Secondary qualification can lead to rejection. It also states that fees will not be refunded in such cancellation cases. Review the details against the original documents before submission and retain the payment and application records. Check the selected subjects and course level carefully, since these choices determine the academic programme for which admission is sought.
Keep admission, examination registration and examination scheduling separate. Our guides to NIOS public examination dates, the on-demand examination route and NIOS study-centre accreditation explain the related systems. The detailed admission conditions remain in the official 2026-27 prospectus linked from the portal.
