NIOS On Demand Examination costs Rs 500 per subject for theory, with another Rs 200 for a subject involving practical work, according to the official fee table. That is the examination charge. A new learner entering through Stream 3 or Stream 4 also has admission registration charges, so Rs 500 should not be read as the complete cost of joining NIOS.
The NIOS SDMIS fee page, checked on 27 October 2026 at 21:46 IST, lists the same ODE examination charges for Secondary and Senior Secondary. Its table separates registration, examination, transfer of credit and subject change fees. That separation is useful when checking a payment demand.
| Fee component for Stream 3 or 4 | Published charge |
|---|---|
| Registration | Rs 620 per subject |
| Theory examination | Rs 500 per subject |
| Practical examination, where applicable | Rs 200 extra per subject |
| Transfer of credit, where applicable | Rs 230 per subject |
| Online application form | Rs 50 extra under the Stream 2, 3 and 4 table |
How much is the NIOS On Demand Exam fee?
For an already admitted learner who is eligible to book an examination, a theory subject with a practical component has an examination charge of Rs 700: Rs 500 plus Rs 200. For three theory subjects, two of which involve practicals, the examination component is Rs 1,900: three multiplied by Rs 500, plus two multiplied by Rs 200.
These examples calculate examination fees only. They do not include admission registration, transfer of credit, a subject change or any other applicable component. Before paying, compare the subjects and fee headings shown in the official learner account with the relevant published table.
Who can take NIOS On Demand examinations?
The official regional procedure says existing Stream 1 Block I and II learners become eligible for ODE after their first public examination. Having an enrolment number does not automatically make every learner eligible for every available session.
Stream 3 is the Secondary level route for eligible applicants from recognised boards. It includes learners who could not clear an examination or were eligible but could not appear, and those who have already passed and want part admission in one to four subjects to update their qualification.
Stream 4 is the corresponding Senior Secondary route. Applicants must meet the applicable entry requirements and supply supporting records. NIOS specifically states that learners registered under Streams 3 and 4 take examinations through ODE and cannot use those registrations to appear in its April or May and October or November public examinations.
Is NIOS On Demand Exam available in October?
No. The national ODE page says these examinations are not conducted in April, May, October or November. The phrase on demand does not mean an examination can be booked for any day of the year.
Seat availability at the examination centre also matters. The regional procedure describes admission as open throughout the year for the relevant streams, but admission availability and examination availability are different. An application submitted during a month without ODE does not establish an examination date for that month.
Where do learners book the examination?
On the national ODE page, the existing learner link leads to the official SDMIS student login. Separate admission links are provided for new Secondary and Senior Secondary applicants. Choose the route that matches your status and check the available subject, centre and date before completing the booking.
The regional instructions require the original NIOS identity card, another valid photo identity document and the complete printout of the computer generated ODE registration application for attendance. Practical arrangements should be checked separately from the theory booking. This guide does not announce a new booking window or promise a particular centre.
