Ministry of Education opens Solid Waste Management Rules quiz for schools till 17 October

School students from Grades 6 to 12 can take a national quiz on the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026 between 17 September and 17 October 2026. The Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Ministry of Education, announced the quiz at a national webinar on solid and e-waste management held in New Delhi on 16 September 2026, according to a Press Information Bureau release the same evening.

The quiz sits on the Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE portal at ecoclubs.education.gov.in under the Swachhata Hi Seva section. It forms part of Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 (17 September to 17 October) and leads into Special Campaign 6.0 (2 to 31 October 2026).

What DoSEL officials said at the webinar

Secretary, DoSEL, T. K. Anil Kumar, linked the drive to National Education Policy 2020 goals on environmental awareness. He recalled that under Special Campaign 5.0 about one lakh school students collected over 4,000 kg of e-waste across 10 cities in four States and one Union Territory.

Joint Secretary, DoSEL, Dr Amarpreet Duggal, pointed to Eco Clubs for Mission LiFE as the school platform for building responsible environmental habits. She asked schools to treat the overlap of Swachhata Pakhwada (1 to 15 September), Swachhata Hi Seva and Special Campaign 6.0 as one continuous cleanliness push.

Special Campaign 6.0 target and how schools can use the quiz

The same day, DoSEL launched a Special Campaign 6.0 portal and set a target of 7 lakh cleanliness campaigns nationwide. Schools that already run Eco Clubs can fold the quiz into class periods between 17 September and 17 October without a separate enrolment form beyond the portal login.

The PIB note does not publish a prize list or state-wise quotas. Teachers should treat participation and awareness as the immediate goal and log activity on the Eco Clubs portal where required.

CBSE schools already running the Mission LiFE e-waste drive can use this quiz as a classroom companion on solid waste rules; non-CBSE schools can join through the Eco Clubs link in the PIB release.

The quiz is framed for Grades 6 to 12, so primary sections are outside the stated band.

Eco Club coordinators should test student logins early on 17 September and plan at least one supervised session before mid-October.

District education offices can ask schools for a simple headcount of Grades 6 to 12 students who attempted the quiz as lightweight Swachhata Hi Seva evidence.
