Mercedes-Benz has introduced the Mercedes-Maybach S 580 e plug-in hybrid in India with an initial allocation of 30 cars. The limousine brings a rechargeable petrol-electric powertrain to the Indian Maybach S-Class range, while retaining a four-seat cabin designed around the passengers travelling behind the driver.

The company highlighted the new electrified model in an official post dated 7 October. Its India launch announcement confirms the limited allocation. That figure describes the launch batch; it does not establish how many cars remain available or give a delivery date for a new order.

The official India product page shows a starting price of Rs 3,35,00,000 with New Delhi selected, price as of 11 October 2026, 10:02 IST. Mercedes-Benz describes it as indicative and subject to customisation. The page does not separate ex-showroom charges from on-road costs, and the indicative starting figure does not establish the final payable amount for an individual order.

Electric running with a petrol engine for longer journeys

The India brochure quotes 585 hp and 750 Nm from the plug-in hybrid powertrain, with 4MATIC all-wheel drive. It also lists an electric-only top speed of 140 km/h. These are manufacturer specifications, rather than figures from an independent road test.

The launch release gives an electric range of up to 98 km under the WLTP test cycle. Actual distance will depend on driving conditions, temperature and use. The 98 km number is a certified test result. Mercedes-Benz's published qualification means it cannot establish the exact electric-only distance for a particular commute or route.

The product page lists a 20-minute DC charging time from 10 to 80 per cent and a 4.8-second acceleration time from rest to 100 km/h. The charging figure covers that stated battery window, rather than a complete recharge. The technical table also warns that selected equipment can change the charging-time figure.

Charging support reaches 11 kW on AC and 60 kW on DC, according to the launch announcement. Mercedes-Benz also says a complimentary home charging solution accompanies the car. The release does not detail the installation work included at an individual property.

The separate Mercedes-Benz public-charging page for India explains the public-charging side. Drivers can look up compatible stations in the app, check availability and costs, and send station details to the vehicle's navigation. The service requires a registered Mercedes-Benz account and the vehicle identification number, with the relevant charging services enabled. The network listing therefore does not mean that every point is compatible with this model.

The rear cabin remains the centre of attention

The current India brochure describes individual rear seats separated by a full-length business console, with folding tables. Heating, ventilation and targeted neck, shoulder and calf massage are listed. These details explain the emphasis of the four-seat layout: the space is arranged for two individual rear passengers.

The product page lists two 13.1-inch rear entertainment displays with vehicle controls. Its Burmester audio specification includes 31 speakers, eight exciters and 1,610 watts of output, with Dolby Atmos support. The front MBUX Superscreen places two displays beneath one glass surface.

Outside, the brochure identifies an illuminated grille, two-tone paint choices and Maybach-patterned entrance lighting. It also describes an augmented-reality head-up display and a three-dimensional driver display. The brochure cautions that illustrated equipment can include optional items and that customers should confirm the exact specification with an authorised franchise partner.

Connected services and ongoing costs

Mercedes-Benz's connected-services guidance says owners need a Mercedes me ID, acceptance of the relevant terms and a linked vehicle. Digital Extras can then be activated, renewed or purchased where offered for that car. A feature's appearance in the wider app catalogue does not establish that it is included with every vehicle or supplied free indefinitely.

The Maybach brochure makes that cost distinction explicit: certain services are free for three years and may become chargeable after that period. The brochure ties this period to activation, rather than a common expiry date for all cars. It does not publish a model-wide renewal price for every connected service.
