MUMBAI: Porsche India has launched the Cayenne Electric, the first all-electric Cayenne sold in the country, at Rs 1,77,27,000 for the standard model and Rs 2,27,51,000 for the Cayenne Turbo Electric. The company said deliveries began on the day of the launch, 30 September, according to its newsroom release.

Porsche India's own website lists both prices as including VAT. Neither the release nor the website splits them into ex-showroom and on-road components, so a buyer should ask a dealer for an itemised on-road quote that adds registration, insurance and any other charges for the city where the car will be registered.

Two variants, one battery layout

The Cayenne Electric and the Cayenne Turbo Electric are both on sale from the start. Ashutosh Dixit, Head of Porsche India, said the model "continues to offer the everyday usability our customers expect from the Cayenne, together with the performance, engineering and driving experience that define our sports cars."

Porsche has also said it will keep selling petrol versions of the Cayenne into the next decade, so the electric model sits beside the existing range and does not replace it.

Performance and charging on the India page

The Cayenne Turbo Electric page for India lists the following figures.

The standard Cayenne Electric is rated at 325 kW (442 PS) with launch control, goes from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.8 seconds and has a top speed of 230 km/h. The Turbo Electric is rated at 850 kW (1,156 PS) with launch control, takes 2.5 seconds to reach 100 km/h and tops out at 260 km/h. Both are all-wheel drive with an automatic transmission.

On charging, Porsche cites an 800-volt architecture with up to 390 kW of DC charging power. Under the conditions it specifies, a charge from 10 to 80 per cent takes 16 minutes. Those conditions include a charger delivering more than 390 kW at over 850 volts and a battery temperature of 15 degrees Celsius, so everyday public chargers in India will be slower. The page also gives a figure of 284 to 315 km of range added in 10 minutes under its stated test conditions.

The combined range figure is shown as "TBA" on the India page at the time of writing, so there is no official certified range to quote for Indian conditions yet.

The Turbo Electric costs Rs 50.24 lakh more than the standard car, a gap that buys the extra power and the faster acceleration. The page also lists a towed weight of up to 3,500 kg with the optional Off-Road package.

What buyers should confirm

Three things are worth asking for in writing. The first is the on-road price. The second is the delivery slot for the exact colour and specification. The third is what home charging hardware is supplied and installed, since the page describes an AC charging port on both sides of the car, home charging with a wallbox of up to 11 kW, and an optional 22 kW AC capability. DC fast charging uses the port on the left-hand side.

The launch took place in Mumbai, and the company said it was introducing the car to Indian media and customers ahead of the first deliveries.
