NEW DELHI: JioFiber Postpaid lists a Rs 0 security deposit on its advance payment plans, but customers still pay the selected plan's rent upfront. Jio's billing FAQ specifies advance rental periods of 3, 6 or 12 months, depending on the plan. The practical distinction is between a waived equipment deposit and money paid for broadband service.
| Official item | What Jio lists |
|---|---|
| New postpaid security deposit | Rs 0 on eligible advance payment plans |
| Advance rental periods | 3, 6 or 12 months, depending on plan |
| Internet-only plan without set-top box | Rs 399 plus GST monthly rental, 30 Mbps, 6 or 12 months in advance |
| Faster internet-only plan without set-top box | Rs 699 plus GST monthly rental, 100 Mbps, 3, 6 or 12 months in advance |
| Deposit and installation on those internet-only rows | Rs 0 |
What zero entry cost actually covers
Jio's security-deposit FAQ includes the ONT, its internet box, and the set-top box in the deposit waiver for applicable postpaid plans. That answers an equipment question. It does not make the chosen service plan free, and a customer comparing the advertised monthly rent with the amount requested at booking needs to keep those categories separate.
The separate advance-rental FAQ says the selected duration is paid upfront and validity begins on activation. During that advance period, it says there are no recurring payments. Read that specific billing explanation alongside the deposit waiver, rather than treating the word postpaid as a promise that nothing is payable until after a month of use.
For a household setting up internet in a rented flat, this changes the budgeting question. A deposit is money held against equipment, while advance rental pays for a period of service. A waived deposit can reduce the entry burden, yet the service payment can still be substantial when a longer duration is selected. The booking summary should make that distinction visible.
The internet-only choices are clearly separated
Jio's FAQ on taking a connection without a set-top box lists the Rs 399 and Rs 699 monthly rental options in the table above. Both rows specify only an ONT. The cheaper row has a longer minimum advance period in that published table, so comparing only the monthly rental leaves out an important part of the commitment.
This is also why an internet-only connection should be checked against its own row. A set-top box, bundled entertainment and the broadband line are related offerings, but the no-box FAQ explicitly allows a connection without the television device. The internet-only rows do not list a bundled set-top box or a catalogue of streaming subscriptions.
Readers examining the entertainment side separately can use our JioFiber prepaid OTT guide. Those prepaid benefits should not be imported into an internet-only postpaid booking. Match the billing category and the exact plan before comparing what the household will receive.
An existing prepaid deposit follows a different rule
Jio's migration FAQ says an existing refundable prepaid deposit moves with the account when it switches to postpaid. It is returned only when the JioFiber connection is discontinued completely and the devices are handed back in good working condition. Moving to postpaid therefore does not, by itself, trigger repayment of that earlier deposit.
Keep the original activation receipt and the migration acknowledgement together. They help distinguish an old deposit already on the account from a fresh charge requested with a new booking. Anyone expecting a refund immediately after migration should first compare that expectation with the published return condition.
Who it is for
This arrangement is most relevant to households comfortable paying for a defined service period in advance. The internet-only rows are especially useful for people who already have their television setup and want to assess broadband on its own. Confirm the duration, tax line, included equipment and activation details in the final order before paying.
For a wider household-cost comparison, our Airtel Xstream Fiber price list covers another broadband service, while the Tata Play Binge+ and HD upgrade comparison addresses an existing television connection. Keep those separate decisions visible when planning the home entertainment budget.
