NEW DELHI: Tata Play lists an HD set-top box upgrade at Rs 1,299 and a Binge+ upgrade at Rs 1,799 for existing customers. HD is the lower priced option; Binge+ adds internet app viewing alongside television channels. These are upgrade figures, separate from the company's new-connection listings.
| Existing-customer upgrade | Listed price | Viewing role | Selected features |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tata Play HD | Rs 1,299 | Conventional channel viewing | 1080i, parental controls, auto standby |
| Tata Play Binge+ | Rs 1,799 | TV channels and entertainment apps | Chromecast, voice remote, catch-up TV |
| Installation on upgrade cards | Free | Both displayed options | One year warranty also listed |
Price as of 28 October 2026, 00:53 IST. Tata Play's upgrade page repeats these payable figures in its product cards. Its FAQs say the applicable upgrade can depend on the existing box and current scheme, so the published comparison should be matched to the customer's account before payment.
What changes with Binge+
The Binge+ product page describes a hybrid arrangement: the satellite dish supplies conventional channels, while an active internet connection supplies OTT viewing. The box brings those routes onto the same screen and remote. The useful distinction is the way programmes arrive and are selected, rather than the word smart on its own.
Tata Play lists built-in Chromecast and Google voice assistant support. Those features provide casting and voice control in addition to the channel interface. For a household moving between a channel schedule and an on-demand app, the change is in everyday navigation as well as the type of content the box can access.
The Binge+ page also advertises access to programmes from the previous seven days. Catch-up viewing can matter to a household whose television time does not match a broadcast schedule. That feature should be checked against the actual programme and service availability, rather than read as an unrestricted archive of every channel.
HD remains the simpler channel box
The HD upgrade card lists 1080i output, parental controls and auto standby. It presents the device around conventional television viewing. The Binge+ card adds the app-related features, which is why the two upgrade amounts should not be treated as different prices for an otherwise identical receiver.
An existing television's own apps also affect how the upgrade will be used. If the household already streams through the TV, it should identify which viewing tasks it wants the replacement box to handle. That is a practical way to compare the interfaces without assuming an extra box is necessary for every screen.
Tata Play's set-top box catalogue distinguishes smart TV streaming from satellite reception. Its explanation says a smart television can already run online services, while satellite channels still require the relevant receiving equipment. Binge+ combines those functions; the television's built-in apps and the DTH connection remain separate parts of the setup.
The box payment does not settle the viewing bill
Buying or upgrading the receiver and paying for content are different transactions. The Binge+ FAQ specifically says Netflix is not free with Binge and describes paid combo packs. The presence of an app on the device should therefore be separated from the subscription needed to watch its paid catalogue.
OTT viewing also needs an internet connection. Tata Play describes connecting Binge+ through Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Before rearranging a living room around the new receiver, establish where the existing broadband connection reaches the TV and which connection method will be used. The upgrade price does not answer that practical installation question.
Keep new-connection and upgrade screens apart
The new-connection Binge+ product page displays Rs 2,199, whereas the existing-customer upgrade page displays Rs 1,799. These are different purchase routes. A reader moving between the pages should keep the account eligibility and transaction type attached to each amount, rather than treating the difference as an unexplained price change.
The upgrade page also shows inconsistent reference prices and saving labels in different sections. This comparison uses its repeated final payable amounts and makes no claim about the size of a discount. Save the applicable order summary so the box, installation and chosen content package can be checked separately.
For the rest of the setup, our Samsung TV guide, Zebronics TV guide and Samsung soundbar guide cover display and audio hardware independently.
