NEW DELHI: Apple's iPad Pro M4 has 8GB RAM with 256GB or 512GB storage, and 16GB RAM with 1TB or 2TB storage. The CPU also changes between those groups. Both the 11-inch and 13-inch models follow this split, so reading only the screen size and M4 badge leaves out part of the configuration.

Read storage as part of the hardware description

The first pair uses a CPU with three performance cores and six efficiency cores. The larger-storage pair has four performance cores and six efficiency cores. Apple lists the same GPU core count for both groups. These are separate specifications, even though all the configurations carry the M4 name.

That makes the storage label unusually significant. Someone documenting an iPad for a design course or a studio inventory should record the capacity beside the chip, rather than filing every M4 unit under an identical hardware description. In this generation, capacity also identifies the memory group and CPU configuration.

The table should not be read as an application benchmark. A change in memory or core count does not establish how much faster a particular drawing, editing or office task will finish. The useful verified conclusion is narrower: the configurations differ, and the difference must be included when describing them.

Keep screen size and glass finish separate

Apple introduced the M4 iPad Pro in 11-inch and 13-inch versions, with silver and space black finishes. Both sizes use the Ultra Retina XDR display built around tandem OLED technology. The size choice does not replace the storage-based split in the specification table.

Nano-texture glass is an option only on the larger-storage tiers shown above. It is not automatically included with every eligible tablet. Apple's launch explanation describes it as a treatment that scatters ambient light to reduce glare. Check whether a configuration actually includes it instead of inferring the finish from capacity.

For a photographer reviewing images in changing light, screen finish and memory answer different questions. The first concerns viewing conditions, while the second belongs in the hardware configuration. A clear equipment record should state both. The same distinction helps a college department compare tablets without reducing every difference to the word Pro.

Readers mapping the wider family can consult the desk's iPad lineup guide. This article explains the 2024 M4 generation; it does not present its original launch figures as current shop prices.

Verify the identity of an existing tablet

On the iPad, open Settings, then General and About. Apple's instructions say the value beside Model Number initially shows a part number. Tap that value to reveal the model number. Use the resulting identifier with Apple's model information rather than relying on a case label or a remembered purchase description.

This is a useful step when an iPad changes hands within a household or moves between teams. A box, a keyboard and a tablet may have been stored separately. Start the configuration record with the device's own identity, then reconcile its capacity and other details with the original equipment record.

Apple's technical pages also show support for Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil with USB-C. That accessory information belongs beside the model identity when preparing a classroom kit. A shared iPad Pro name across generations should not be treated as confirmation that any existing Pencil is the matching accessory.

Build a configuration record that can be checked

A useful record reads across the columns: generation, screen size, storage, memory group, CPU and glass finish, followed by connectivity and accessories. Keep the details together in any internal request or equipment handover. That makes a description like M4 Pro tablet much less likely to conceal a missing specification.

For other tablet context, see the Galaxy Tab and newer iPad Pro comparison and the desk's iPad, Air and Pro family guide. Keep those generations separate from the M4 configuration map when comparing specifications.
