NEW DELHI: The Hyundai Exter, starts at Rs 5,80,600 ex-showroom on Hyundai India's official website. It is sold with a petrol manual, a petrol AMT and a CNG manual across the HX 2 to HX 10 variants. Price as of 10 October 2026, 1:00 PM IST.

That makes the Exter one of the cheaper ways into a compact SUV from a mainstream maker, and Diwali on 8 November is when many first-time buyers visit showrooms. Here is what Hyundai says you get, using only the details on its own pages.

Exter engine and gearbox choices

Every Exter runs on the 1.2 litre Kappa petrol engine, which Hyundai rates at 61 kW (83 PS) and 113.8 Nm of torque. Buyers can pick a 5-speed manual or the Smart Auto AMT. A 1.2 litre bi-fuel Kappa petrol with a CNG option is also offered for those chasing lower running costs.

Hyundai describes the 4-cylinder engine as smooth for daily city use and longer highway trips. The Rs 5,80,600 starting price applies to the entry variant, and prices rise with trim, gearbox and fuel type.

Variants and special editions

The variants named on the page are HX 2, HX 3, HX 4, HX 4+, HX 6, HX 8 and HX 10. In the trim names used on the price list, the petrol manual range includes EX, S Smart, SX, SX Tech and SX(O) Connect DT. The petrol AMT range includes S Smart, SX, SX Tech and SX(O) Connect.

The CNG line-up is manual only and lists EX Dual, S Executive, SX, SX Tech and SX Dual Knight Edition. Knight Edition versions in both manual and AMT petrol offer a sporty black and red interior with distinct detailing.

Features and safety

Depending on the variant, the Exter offers a digital cluster with a colour TFT display, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Hyundai Bluelink connected-car technology, Home-to-Car with Alexa, wireless phone charging and a 20.32 cm HD audio-video navigation system.

On safety, Hyundai lists six airbags as standard, along with electronic stability control, hill-start assist, vehicle stability management and a tyre pressure monitoring system. Six standard airbags at this price point are a useful point when you compare it with other small SUVs.

A sensible way to choose is by running cost and use. The petrol manual is the simplest and cheapest to buy, the Smart Auto AMT suits stop-start traffic, and the CNG manual is meant for buyers who drive more every day. Hyundai does not publish running-cost claims on this page, so ask the dealer for a test drive in the exact version you want.

Because the Exter shares its engine across all versions, the real difference between trims is equipment. Check which of the connected and wireless features listed above come with the variant you are buying, since several are marked as variant dependent.

For a first-time buyer, the entry price is only the starting point. Add registration, insurance and accessories to the Rs 5,80,600 figure and the on-road amount will be higher, and the gap grows with each trim step. Setting a total budget before you visit the showroom keeps the choice of variant realistic.

What to check before you book

The Rs 5,80,600 figure is ex-showroom. Registration, insurance, tax collected at source and accessories come on top, so the on-road price will be higher and will differ by state. Hyundai says the ex-showroom price varies by variant, transmission and fuel option.

The company also says prices and variants may change without prior notice and asks buyers to confirm the latest figures with the nearest dealer. If you are leaning towards CNG, ask the dealer about boot space on the exact variant and about the delivery date.
