NEW DELHI: HP's Indian store lists the Smart Tank 585 at Rs 14,999 and the Smart Tank 580 at Rs 15,500, including taxes. Both are wireless colour printers with scanning and copying, so the lower-priced 585 does not give up those headline functions. Price as of 26 October 2026, 23:45 IST.

Read the product code with the price

The table records the selling prices displayed on HP's current Indian product pages and Smart Tank listing. It does not subtract coupons or attach a value to promotional gifts. Those distinctions matter because the amount beside the printer and a conditional benefit advertised elsewhere on a store page are different things.

The SKU is useful when matching a quotation to this comparison. A Smart Tank family name alone does not identify the exact package. HP's pages also contain several general ink-yield statements, so this comparison does not turn those into a guaranteed number of prints from either Indian box.

The shared printing baseline

HP gives both models ISO print speeds of up to 12 pages per minute in black and 5 in colour. These are document-printing figures. They should not be confused with the larger draft-mode numbers that can appear elsewhere in a specification sheet, or treated as the time needed for a detailed photograph.

The 580's official page describes phone and tablet printing and scanning to PDF. It positions the machine for a small group of users. For a home office receiving forms on a phone and producing letters from a laptop, the meaningful feature is that the printer is not confined to a single wired computer.

The 585's connectivity table lists USB 2.0, Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi Direct. Mobile options include Apple AirPrint and Mopria Print Service. These are separate connection paths: the presence of USB does not cancel the wireless functions, and wireless support does not mean a computer must always be involved in sending a print job.

Scanning and paper handling

HP describes the 585's scanner as flatbed only, with hardware scan resolution up to 1,200 x 1,200 dpi. Its automatic document feeder field is marked not applicable. A stack of application forms will therefore require a different handling routine from an office machine that feeds originals automatically.

The 580's published specifications also identify a flatbed scanner. That is a useful distinction for readers who see “all-in-one” and assume every office-paper task is automated. Print, copy and scan identify the available functions; they do not specify how originals are loaded or how much manual handling remains.

For the 585, HP specifies a 100-sheet input tray and a 30-sheet output tray. Duplex printing is manual with driver support. This means two-sided document production involves user handling, even though the software can assist. Automatic duplex printing should not be inferred from the model's wireless capabilities.

Match the workload to the specification

The 585's recommended monthly volume is 400 to 800 pages. HP separately lists a maximum monthly duty cycle and explains that it is not the recommended ongoing volume. The distinction is practical: an upper mechanical workload figure and the volume intended for regular use answer different questions.

HP lists a limited hardware warranty of one year or 30,000 pages, whichever comes earlier, for these product pages. The page limit matters alongside the calendar period. Warranty wording also needs to be kept separate from refill-ink costs, promotional benefits and the advertised life of the included ink supply.

On the published specifications used here, the comparison is chiefly about the exact package and listed price, rather than a claimed leap in printing speed. We have not assigned a print-quality winner or calculated lifetime savings from these specifications; those conclusions would require comparable testing and a defined printing workload.
