NEW DELHI: Honda Unicorn owners get a standard warranty of three years or 42,000 km, whichever comes first, according to the company's current model page. A repair request should therefore begin with the purchase date and odometer reading, followed by a clear description of the fault. Being inside the warranty period does not, by itself, make every replacement free.
| Check | Official Unicorn information |
|---|---|
| Standard cover | 3 years or 42,000 km, whichever comes first |
| Covered issue | Defect in a component or workmanship, subject to warranty terms |
| Common exclusions | Normal wear items, specified electrical and rubber parts, and consumables |
| Paid servicing | Every 6,000 km or within 6 months |
Start with the motorcycle's own records
For someone using a Unicorn to commute every working day, the kilometre limit deserves as much attention as the calendar. A motorcycle can reach the distance ceiling while it is still relatively young. Check both before assuming that the remaining months on the purchase anniversary represent remaining cover.
As practical preparation, keep the invoice, warranty booklet, service invoices and any earlier job cards together. Write down when the symptom began, whether it appears with a cold or warm engine, and whether it occurs during starting, acceleration or braking. These notes help describe the complaint without trying to diagnose it yourself.
If the problem is intermittent, a safely recorded photograph or video can help show what happened. Do not operate a phone while riding or deliberately reproduce an unsafe fault. The useful evidence is a description of the circumstances, rather than a risky attempt to demonstrate the problem on the road.
The current Unicorn page identifies a 162.71 cc motorcycle with a 240 mm front disc, LED lighting and a 15 W USB-C socket. With that mix of equipment, describe whether a complaint concerns braking, illumination or charging, rather than writing only that the bike has a problem. The equipment list itself does not establish warranty eligibility.
Separate a defect from routine replacement
Honda's model FAQ describes standard cover in terms of component and workmanship defects. It also lists exclusions, including normal wear items and consumables. That distinction matters when a repair estimate contains several jobs. An inspection for a reported fault and a scheduled service can appear on the same visit while involving different decisions about payment.
Ask the workshop to record the actual complaint on the job card before work begins. If a part needs replacement, ask which item has failed, what the inspection found and whether the proposed repair is being assessed under warranty. Request an itemised estimate for any work that the workshop says is chargeable.
A worn brake component and an allegation of defective workmanship are different questions. Avoid treating the name of a part alone as proof that a claim must succeed or fail. Ask for the reason for the decision in writing, with the relevant warranty condition identified, so there is a clear record to review.
Keep servicing and optional cover distinct
Honda's maintenance guidance explains that components can deteriorate with time as well as use. For a Unicorn that spends long periods parked, a low odometer reading should not become a reason to ignore scheduled attention. Use the motorcycle's own service documentation when planning workshop visits and retain evidence of completed work.
Optional extended warranty is a separate arrangement. Honda has an official extended-warranty page, but owners should check their own certificate for the purchased cover and its conditions. Do not assume that a general website banner establishes what was included in the sale of a particular motorcycle.
Our Honda car prices: Amaze from Rs 6,97,700, City Rs 11,99,900, ZR-V Rs 49,99,900 covers a different Honda ownership arrangement. Its conditions should not be transferred to a Unicorn claim. Similarly, the Honda City price list: Rs 11,99,900 to Rs 20,99,900 is a separate model reference, rather than a substitute for this motorcycle's records.
Leave with a written outcome
Before approving paid work, establish which repairs have been authorised and which remain under assessment. Keep copies of the estimate, final invoice and workshop explanation. If the original symptom returns, those documents make it easier to distinguish a repeat complaint from a new issue without relying on memory.
The same discipline appears in our Honda New Elevate priced from Rs 11.80 lakh, CVT from Rs 13.79 lakh, although that scooter has its own terms. For the Unicorn, start with the exact vehicle documents and Honda's model-specific coverage statement. A concise complaint history is more useful than a broad demand to replace everything.
