NEW DELHI: Honda City starts at Rs 11,99,900, while the New Honda Amaze starts lower at Rs 7,65,400 on Honda Cars India's official price page. That puts the entry gap at Rs 4,34,500. The comparison concerns the current New Amaze, because Honda separately lists the second-generation Amaze at a different starting figure.
Price as of 28 October 2026, 15:51 IST. Both figures are starting ex-showroom prices. They establish the bottom of each range, rather than a matched pair of automatics or equally equipped variants.
| Official listing | Starting price | What the figure covers |
|---|---|---|
| New Honda City | Rs 11,99,900 | Entry to the City range |
| New Honda Amaze | Rs 7,65,400 | Entry to the current New Amaze range |
| Amaze, second generation | Rs 6,97,700 | Separately listed older model |
| City minus New Amaze | Rs 4,34,500 | Calculated starting-price difference |
The Amaze generation changes the arithmetic
Using the second-generation Amaze against the City produces a Rs 5,02,200 difference. That is a valid calculation for a different pair of official listings, but it cannot be substituted for the New Amaze comparison. The Rs 67,700 separation between the two Amaze starting prices is therefore essential context, rather than a minor footnote.
For a reader opening the Honda price page after seeing an Amaze advertisement, the model label is as important as the number. Otherwise, the lower figure can migrate into a discussion of the newer car's equipment and create a package that Honda has not actually advertised.
The price page supplies starting figures but does not expose a complete, readable variant-by-variant ladder in this view. There is consequently no verified automatic premium in this comparison. Attaching an estimated CVT price would make the table look more complete while making the reporting less reliable.
A different engine step for the larger sedan
The City product page specifies a 1.5-litre i-VTEC petrol engine developing 121 PS and 145 Nm, with a six-speed manual or CVT. Honda lists SV, V, ZX and ZX+ petrol grades with the manual, and V, ZX and ZX+ with the CVT. The choice extends beyond simply moving up through equipment levels.
New Amaze's official page identifies a 1,199 cc engine and manual or CVT transmissions. It also highlights a 416-litre boot, an eight-inch audio display, a LaneWatch camera and Honda Sensing, with equipment depending on grade. Those are concrete parts of its own product brief, rather than evidence that a City and an Amaze share identical specifications.
For an Indian household comparing sedans, the original context here is the overlap between everyday utility and the desire to move into a larger model range. The Amaze's advertised boot capacity gives it a measurable luggage claim of its own. The City's extra entry cost therefore needs to be understood through its engine and chosen specification, rather than through the sedan body style alone.
Keep the hybrid figures with the hybrid
The City page also includes an e:HEV strong hybrid, listed in ZX+ grade. Its official combined power figure is 126 PS, and the page advertises 27.26 km/l. Neither figure describes the entry petrol City represented by the Rs 11,99,900 starting price.
This distinction matters because Honda's product page presents petrol and hybrid information together. A reader can easily see the lowest price and the highest economy claim in the same browsing session. They belong to separate versions, so combining them would distort the apparent cost of entering Honda's hybrid range.
Likewise, a model page's safety and convenience highlights are a menu across the range until a variant specification confirms otherwise. A comparison of starting prices should not imply that the base cars include every camera, driver-assistance function or display shown in the promotional material.
The existing City price list provides the wider ladder, while our Amaze safety explainer addresses equipment by grade. For the rest of the showroom, see Honda starting-price coverage. Read each model label alongside its price before comparing the specification attached to it.
