GURUGRAM: The District Legal Services Authority held child protection awareness sessions at government and private schools across Gurugram on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, including schools in Sector 4/7, Sukhrali, Jharsa and Manesar. The sessions formed part of NALSA's Surakshit Bachpan Abhiyan and covered children's rights, personal safety, protection from sexual abuse and ways to seek help, according to an official Haryana release.
The release, published at 10:03 pm IST on October 27, names schools across both the city and surrounding villages. It says the programme was conducted under the guidance of District and Sessions Judge Narendra Sura, who chairs DLSA Gurugram, with Chief Judicial Magistrate and DLSA secretary Nisha leading the initiative.
Which schools the release names
The participating locations included Government Senior Secondary School Islampur, Government Senior Secondary School Boys Gurugram, Government Model Sanskriti Primary School Sector 4/7, schools in Sukhrali and Carterpuri, and KR Mangalam World School Gurugram. The release also lists government senior secondary schools in Wazirabad, Jharsa, Daulatabad, Dhankot, Makdola, Civil Lines, Garhi Harsaru and Badshahpur.
Other schools named were Government Model Sanskriti Primary School Sector 5, Government Senior Secondary School Dhanwapur, Atul Memorial High School Jharsa, Government Model Sanskriti Primary School Kadipur, Blue Bells Model School Sector 4 and Government Senior Secondary School Manesar. The announcement does not give attendance figures or a separate timetable for individual campuses.
Legal services representatives, department officials and teachers explained child protection provisions and routes to assistance, the release says. Practical examples were used to help students understand their rights and recognise situations in which they should ask for support. The announcement describes awareness sessions rather than a change to school hours, admission rules or examinations.
Six themes and three help numbers
The sessions addressed six themes: childhood rights; understanding the law to protect children; safer online activity; speaking up and reporting concerns; preventing child marriage and exploitation; and building awareness among children. The legal subjects included the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, along with provisions concerning child marriage and child exploitation, according to the release.
Students were also told about personal boundaries and the importance of a safe environment. On online safety, the sessions covered keeping personal information private, using the internet and social media safely, and recognising cyberbullying and online exploitation. These were topics taught during the programme, rather than findings about incidents at the named schools.
The DLSA message to students was to seek help from parents, teachers or another trusted person if they encountered inappropriate behaviour or exploitation. The release records three helpline numbers explained at the sessions:
- 1098: Child Helpline.
- 1930: Cybercrime helpline.
- 15100: Free legal assistance helpline.
The official October 27 release provides the school locations, subjects covered and assistance numbers. NALSA's official website separately lists Surakshit Bachpan Abhiyan as a nationwide school awareness campaign on the POCSO Act. The Gurugram release does not announce a date for another local round of sessions.
The campaign booklet on NALSA's website gives further context for families. It describes the roles of the Special Juvenile Police Unit, Child Welfare Committee, Special Court and support persons in child protection cases. These explanations are part of the national teaching material; the Gurugram release does not identify any individual case discussed during the school visits.
The booklet also explains the Legal Services Unit for Children under NALSA's child friendly legal services scheme of 2024. It describes support through trained panel lawyers and para legal volunteers, including help understanding legal rights, accessing advice and representation, and connecting with other support services.
