GURUGRAM: A leaking drinking-water pipeline at AIT Chowk, between sectors 54 and 55, prompted an overnight repair plan announced by Gurugram Traffic Police on Monday, October 26. The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram was assigned the work, with diversions scheduled from 10 pm that night until 4 am on Tuesday, October 27, affecting traffic approaching from Sector 54 and Ghata Power House.
The scheduled six-hour window has now passed. The official notices reviewed for this report do not confirm the repair's completion or a subsequent reopening, so the original announcement should not be read as a fresh closure for Tuesday night.
What the water-leak notice confirmed
The pipeline lies about eight feet below road level, according to the traffic police advisory published at 9:09 pm IST on October 26. Its attached photographs and information panels identify drinking water collecting on the main carriageway, slowing traffic and wasting water. The repair agency named in the advisory is MCG.
- Location: AIT Chowk, sectors 54 and 55.
- Work: Repair of an underground drinking-water pipeline.
- Announced start: October 26, 10 pm IST.
- Announced end: October 27, 4 am IST.
- Traffic assistance: 1095.
The notice identifies a local leak and the movement restrictions needed for repair. It does not list residential societies facing a water-supply shutdown, specify a quantity of water lost or announce a citywide interruption. Residents checking their household supply should therefore distinguish this repair announcement from a sector-wise supply-cut notice.
The two diversion routes
For traffic arriving from the Sector 54 metro station side, police instructed drivers to pass the AIT Chowk roundabout without taking its U-turn. The permitted sequence was to travel about 100 metres ahead, turn there, enter the Wazirabad-side service road and use the cut near the CNG pump before continuing towards Genpact Chowk.
Traffic coming from Ghata Power House was directed to bypass the AIT Chowk roundabout altogether. That approach joined the Wazirabad-side service road directly, followed by the U-turn near the CNG pump and onward movement towards Genpact Chowk. The Gurugram Police notice, posted at 9:17 pm IST on October 26, repeats the same dates and routes.
Checking the position after the work window
Neither notice extends the restriction beyond the stated morning deadline. Anyone encountering barricades or a continuing diversion should follow the directions of personnel at the junction and seek a current update. The police website lists 1095 and 0124-2386000 for traffic assistance; the social advisory also carries the emergency number 112.
For wider water-service context, earlier local reporting covers the Sector 72 boosting-station connection, recycled-water network plans for sectors 58 to 115 and groundwater action plans. These are separate projects and should not be used to infer the extent of this AIT Chowk repair.
