NEW DELHI: Dish TV lists a Rs 250 out-of-warranty box swap charge, with a Rs 200 technician visit charge where that visit is outside warranty, plus any applicable hardware costs. Its Consumer Corner says a replacement is a refurbished set-top box with 180 days of warranty. Dish SMRT HUB has a different swap fee of Rs 700.

Start with the kind of box and the complaint
The standard swap and SMRT HUB swap are separate entries in Dish TV's official schedule. Before accepting a quote, identify the installed device and ask the service team to state which row applies. The fact that a television can run streaming apps does not establish which Dish TV box is attached to it.
Record what happens when the set-top box is switched on, the message on the screen and whether the problem began after a recharge or a physical incident. A precise description is more useful than asking for a new box immediately. It gives the service team something specific to investigate before parts are discussed.
Check account recovery before assuming hardware failure
Dish TV's Quick Help page has a separate process for services that do not resume after recharge and for subscribed channels that cannot be watched. It describes an account refresh route and says to leave the box on for 15 minutes. That is an account-support step, so explain a recent recharge when reporting the fault.
The same support page asks customers to check the viewing-card or registered mobile number used for a recharge. Keep the payment acknowledgement with the complaint details. A successful payment to the wrong account and a failed piece of equipment need different remedies, even if both leave the household unable to watch television.
Ask for a breakdown of the work
The service and spare-parts PDF labels its prices as including GST. It lists an ordinary adaptor at Rs 260 and a SMRT HUB adaptor at Rs 350, alongside separate charges for cables, remotes and other components. If the diagnosis concerns a power supply or accessory, ask the technician to identify that item in the quotation.
This matters because swap, visit and additional hardware are distinct parts of the published policy. A customer should be able to see what is being replaced and why. Do not treat the headline swap figure as an all-inclusive repair bill or assume every service request requires a complete set-top box exchange.
The refurbished replacement condition also deserves attention before handover. Save the acknowledgement identifying the exchanged device and its replacement date. If the same symptoms return, those records make it easier to refer to the replacement cover rather than opening the discussion as an unrelated purchase.
Keep the complaint reference
Dish TV's Manual of Practice says a complaint should receive a docket number, a registration date and time, and an expected resolution time. It also provides for escalation to a nodal officer if the customer is dissatisfied. Request those details when registering the service issue and retain them with the work order.
Use the record to explain a disputed charge or an unresolved fault clearly: what was reported, what was diagnosed, what was changed and what was paid. This is more useful than relying on an informal assurance that the problem will be fixed during a later visit.
Who it is for
This guide is for existing Dish TV users assessing a faulty-box service request, particularly after the original hardware warranty has ended. It is also useful after a recent exchange, when the relevant document is the refurbished unit's replacement acknowledgement. Ask the company to confirm the cover applicable to the particular device.
