CBSE has asked affiliated schools to join the Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating programme for 2026-27. Circular Acad-54/2026, dated 10 August 2026, notes that the Department of School Education and Literacy has launched SHVR as a national programme to strengthen water, sanitation and hygiene, environmental sustainability and Mission LiFE work inside schools.

The Board states that the implementation outline, assessment method and evaluation process for SHVR 2026-27 will follow the pattern used in SHVR 2025-26. Schools will be assessed across six thematic areas: water, toilets, handwashing with soap, operations and maintenance, behaviour change and capacity building, and Mission LiFE activities.

Portal registration and school duty list

Principals are requested to ensure timely registration of the school on the SHVR portal or mobile application, complete the self-assessment within the prescribed timeline, nominate staff to coordinate SHVR activities and maintain evidence files, and encourage active participation of students, teachers and the school community. Schools should also join orientation and capacity-building programmes organised by NCERT and other designated agencies.

How SHVR sits beside Mission LiFE drives

Many CBSE schools are already running e-waste collection and Eco Club work under Mission LiFE. SHVR folds those habits into a rated framework that also covers toilets, water points and handwashing stations. A school that has strong plantation photographs but weak soap-at-tap evidence will not score evenly across the six themes.

Estates and wellness committees should photograph functional handwashing points, toilet cleanliness routines and LiFE activity logs before uploading self-assessment claims. Nominated SHVR coordinators need duty time, not only a circular forward on the staff messaging group.

Copy of Acad-54 goes to Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti, Eklavya Model Residential Schools, Sainik Schools and state directorates. Affiliated private schools should treat the circular as a direct Board request to register and self-assess.
