NEW DELHI: Bajaj RE buyers need to separate four fuel versions before comparing quotations: Diesel, Petrol, CNG and LPG. Bajaj's India product page says the CNG and LPG versions are bi-fuel. That makes the fuel description on the order sheet more useful than a photograph or colour choice when identifying the vehicle being offered.
| Official RE option | Engine displacement | Clutch listed by Bajaj |
|---|---|---|
| Diesel | 470.5 cc | Dry, single plate |
| Petrol | 236.2 cc | Wet, multiplate |
| CNG, bi-fuel | 236.2 cc | Wet, multiplate |
| LPG, bi-fuel | 236.2 cc | Wet, multiplate |
Start with the fuel name, then identify the vehicle
Ask for the complete model and fuel description in writing before comparing accessories, finance illustrations or paint. Keep that description beside the quotation throughout the discussion. A verbal offer for an RE is too broad to establish which of the fuel choices is included, even when the vehicle pictured looks familiar.
Do not use displacement alone to identify the version. The table shows why: the petrol and gas options share the same stated engine size. Ask the salesperson to show the relevant fuel controls and demonstrate how the particular bi-fuel vehicle is operated. Treat that as a handover question, rather than guessing the procedure from another driver's auto.
The practical distinction for an owner-driver is the refuelling routine. Write down the actual fuel stops on the intended working route, including the journey back to the parking place. Then ask which fuel arrangement the quotation covers. This is a route-planning exercise, not a promise that a particular fuel will deliver higher income.
Compare the same fields on every quotation
Give each quotation its own column in a notebook. Copy the fuel name, vehicle description, included equipment and exclusions exactly as supplied. If the seller describes a package rather than the base vehicle, ask for the components to be separated. That will expose differences which a single total at the bottom can hide.
Colours should come later in that exercise. Bajaj's product page presents colour combinations alongside the fuel selector, but the colour is not a substitute for the fuel specification. Ask to see the actual vehicle proposed for delivery and match its paperwork with the written offer before treating an illustration as confirmation.
Readers moving between passenger and goods vehicles can also use our Maruti Tour H1 price list: Rs 3,99,900 to Rs 4,81,900. Its petrol, CNG and cab-chassis distinctions concern a different vehicle, but illustrate the same need to read the complete description. The Maruti Tour H3 price list: Rs 4,98,900 to Rs 5,88,900 provides a separate reference for the goods-carrier side of that search.
Keep savings calculations separate from the specification
Bajaj includes a diesel-to-CNG savings calculator on the RE page and labels its output approximate. Its EMI tool is also indicative. These are useful prompts for questions, rather than personalised quotations. Save the assumptions used in any illustration, so that a change in daily use does not pass unnoticed when someone presents a different result.
For a meaningful discussion, bring a simple route diary: distance covered, empty running, refuelling detours and time spent waiting. Ask the seller to explain which entries matter to its calculation. A working day with a long queue at the chosen fuel stop deserves its own line in the diary, even if it does not appear in a headline savings figure.
Before handover, request a demonstration of starting, reversing and the fuel-specific controls on the exact vehicle. Ask where the relevant instructions are in its owner documentation. If the explanation relies on a different RE fuel version, pause that part of the handover until the correct instructions are available. Familiar bodywork should not become a reason to skip identification.
Warranty questions belong on a separate sheet from that demonstration. Our Bajaj Chetak price list: Rs 99,802 to Rs 1,53,850 for all five models in Bengaluru concerns an electric passenger vehicle and different terms; do not transfer its limits to an RE. The useful habit is to obtain the applicable document, keep the invoice and record the delivered vehicle's identity clearly.
